Didn't read through. So forgive me if this has been mentioned.
But this is actually a very powerful sales tactic.
Match the tone and tempo of your mark, I mean prospect.
Its like sales 3001 or so.

Pops is from Michigan mom is from New Orleans. I don’t change my accent per se, but my word choice alters depending on where I am.

My sister (no pics) does this shite, but its subconscious and she doesnt realize it. Annoys the shite out of me.
We'd visit family in the Midwest over Christmas break as a kid and she'd always start sounding like she was from Mini-soda until we had been back in the south for a day or two

quote:
It beats when people go out of their way to act more like stereotype of where they’re from.
Throwing in extra talks and using a country accent when they don’t actually have one
I have another sister (half sister and no pics) who does this shite, lives in another region of the country and ever since she moved there she sounds like she grew up in Randolph County, AL, she uses all these stupid arse made up southern sounding colloquialisms, and loves to remind people how she's a "southern belle". She NEVER was like that when she lived in Alabama and actively hated on southern culture until she moved away.
It's fricking embarrassing as hell. The other sister who changes her dialect to match her audience is merely annoying.

I have caught myself subconsciously using a slightly thicker southern accent when around those that use it.

It's a sign of empathy and it's subconscious

I find my self answering "yahhhh" more and not pronouncing my Th's as much when I am down da bayou but still have my redneck accent. When I am around those hoity toity people as mentioned above I tend to thicken my redeckanese. When they say "your not from around here. I can tell by your accent. Where are you from?" I always reply "New York City, born & raised"

It’s not exactly something supernatural, I used to manage truck drivers over the road and talked differently to them.

I do it all the time. My favorite are "up 'er" and "that a way"
