If I were at a conference in Corpus Christi or Laredo, I would definitely try the local food. In Austin, not so much.

The food in Corpus is pretty mediocre for the most part

Laredo would be a great place to try a taqueria though. Specifically taqueria Ravi for pastor tacos

Don’t eat the local cuisine in Minnesota. All they have is poutine and shitty pizza.

I'm not big on chains when I travel anywhere. Or my real manifesto is I don't eat at places that I can eat at while home. So In N Out... for sure. Canes? yep. McDonalds? nah.

Unfortunately, a LOT of the famous places are now just famous for their past food. Most local places make you wonder why they're even in business, much less famous for their area. But I do always try to find something I can't get at home to eat AND drink. Do I care if anyone else does that? nope. Don't look down on people who don't think like you. Everyone who is different isn't doing it wrong, nor are you wrong. Different strokes for different folks.

When I was in the Navy, McDonalds was always considered a safe location to take a shite at. Most Asian places had those hole in the floor toilets and after a long night drinking and eating everything you could, a nice McDonalds shitter just was like a warm hug.

I’m in Austin for a conference and most of my coworkers never ventured out to explore the local flavors and ate whatever BS was catered to them.

Are they receiving a lump sum per diem? It could be they would rather use that to supplement booze, cocaine, and hookers than food.

I mostly had lime based seafood there a few trips and really enjoyed it. Had roasted goat in Laredo (actually walked to Nuevo Laredo) and it was awesome - as was steak at the Tack Room beside the Rio Grande.
I guess I missed some good food in Austin.

There’s four regions of SC bbq and NC bbq, with differences in whole hog, shoulders, and different regional sauces. If you don’t like any of it, consider that you’re the problem, not the bbq.

Your a Clemson fan, how’s the tofu?
