re: People that go on vacations just to do the same stuff they do at home?

Most of the country's food is just underwhelming, and there's no way around it
I guess we are splitting hairs now, but there are so many cities (large and smaller) that have great restaurant scenes now. I just don't see how you make that blanket judgement.
To each his own.
And to add on from something others are talking about, good cooks and good chefs, even the ones in Nola, aren't dumping a bunch of Tony's on the food for their spice. That's a long outdated though process.

How about the people who go to the same beach 2 hours from home and rent the same house every single year?
Should they drive another 3 hours so that the house they are cooking / sleeping in and the beach they are sitting / swimming at are slightly different?

If you are going on a Saints or LSU road trip with a bunch of guys and you find urself kayaking down the Guadalupe you’re not doing it right. If you’re with a wife or g/f I feel ur pain and will gladly toss you a beer from the bank as you row by.

Lot of difference between going to an LSU vs Texas football game, and going on vacation. On a road game weekend, most people aren't going to do many activities that don't have something to do with the game. You're going to eat, and drink, so find out what's good, but you're not there to see the town.

.....don't go to LSU/Texas football games on vacation, this isn't a vacation it's a football game weekend. There are plenty of other times to go to Austin.

I've never done that but having owned a couple of beach condos, good return guests are the best.
Some folks just want to hear the surf and watch the waves. What confounds me are the people that will go to the beach and spend most of their time in restaurants or shopping.

And you're never sure if the unit or the complex is a good one until you go there. If you find a nice place, it makes sense to return there, imo.

As long as I'm not paying for it, I don't care what they do.

Not offended. But curious as to what would be better than OK.
It is far too hot, humid, & buggy in most of LA to do anything of entertainment comparable to what was listed for the Austin area. Sure, it's HOT in central TX, but it's not miserable LA swamp arse hot.

I live 200 yards from where I grew up. I’ve been all over the world, and I have a vacation home that I go to about 18 times per year. I travel with just a soft briefcase, because everything I need is there. I could afford virtually any alternative you can think of, but I prefer this. BTW, I know a lot of wealthy people, and most of them vacation in the same place most of the time, for example, the Bush’s in Kennebunkport and the Kennedy’s in Martha’s Vineyard.

All the LSU in Austin threads got me thinking. It seems the biggest interests are what bars to go to, where do Louisiana people gather, where’s some good Cajun food.....
Where are you seeing people asking about Cajun food in ATX?
Whats the issue about asking about good bars and where to hang out with other LSU fans?

Going to war baw. Not a vacay

Nope....tell me what bars to go to and where I can hang out with Louisiana people. Hope everyone enjoys the game, but good heavens, open your mind a little bit.
Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you got
Taking a break from all your worries
It sure would help a lot
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came
You want to be where you can see
The troubles are all the same
You want to be where everybody knows your name
You want to go where people know
The people are all the same
You want to go where everybody knows your name

The majority of people have never left a small radius from their hometown aside from maybe college. I find this is more true of LA natives than many others,
I’ve lived in LA, TX, KY, IL, OH, MI, PA - in small towns and big cities. I agree with the first part of your statement, but I don’t think it’s something more true of LA natives. Perhaps that’s just from your own experience and being around more LA natives?
Either way, a lot of people stay in their own general vicinity and I think it’s a comfort thing. People don’t like to leave their comfort zone, in any aspect of life. It’s hard to get into shape because you don’t want to leave your comfort zone and join a gym. How many people never chase their dream job because it’s easier to stay in the comfort of what they’re currently doing? I think the same thing happens with location. If you grow up amongst family and friends in the same place, it becomes your comfort zone and a lot of people don’t want to leave it.
