I work in the biomedical field and am shocked that so many of my peers are so ignorant when it comes to history and geography. Even though they’re smart they don’t care if they don’t think it’s relevant.

I work in forensic accounting, and most if not all of the people I work with have CPAs/JDs etc.

About two months ago, i told one of them that saying "reach for the moon if you don't get there you'll end up in the stars" was bullcrap. She asked me why, then i realized that 3/5 people i spoke to didn't know the Sun was 1) the closest star to Earth and 2) the Sun is not the biggest star in the universe

It was like 3:30 in the afternoon, and i just walked out

Kimmel is located on Hollywood Boulevard where the dumbest people from all over the world flock to. If they stayed out there for 3 or so hours, it wouldn't shock me if they found 8 people that couldn't do it.

I feel offended that past educators have failed the youth as they have in these ignorant sandovadriants.

I find it offensive that an educator blames other educators for the cognitive disability, indolence and lack of ambition of people that don't know jack shite. Ignorance is a choice for anyone with an IQ over 85.

Learning is an individual endeavor the village can't do it for you.

I seriously doubt you can name 1/2 of the countries and currently put them in place on a map either, and you are an educator.

If Billy Joel didn’t list them in “We didn’t start the fire” then I’m good with the population not knowing them.

I agree that most lack adequate geography and history knowdlege. The excuse is why do I need to know this? Well why do you need to know anything, being a well rounded person improves youmas a whole.

Knowledge of stock and bond trading really has no reason to be common knowledge and it way to specialized. Even your most knowledgeable trader still has steep learning curves when they branch out of their specialty

I wish my child’s school spent way more time on economics and stocks and bonds and finances than where the West Indes or how the border of Russia has changed. There is no reason to spend so much time on geography and no time on basic economic skills in k-12. I have often wondered why the private sector has not set up an economic school for high schoolers on weekends and holidays/summer breaks. Wealthy parents would send their kids to these schools in alarmingly successful numbers.

Kids as well as adults are completely deficient in geography and history. Humans haven't been the best stewards of the earth, and this is one reason I expect that reign to continue.

People are probably as ignorant of geography as they are economics. Amazed that these people can function.

There are too many Americans that can’t label all 50 US states much less countries of the world.

Yeah. Me thinks he wouldn’t be able to point out the remainder. They’re all right there together, small, and completely insignificant.

When was the last time someone you know visited Uzbekistan? Never.

I took an international business course in college, and one of our exams was being given a map with 100 countries chosen at random. We had to be able to name them. Oceania was excluded, but every other country in the world was fair game.

I feel like I can tell you where a fairly decent amount of countries are located.
