Naming winter storms is stupid. All it does is allow the insurance companies to cry named storm deductible when a claim is filed, frick the insurance companies.

The Weather Channel naming winter storms has nothing to do with insurance

Also, not a lot of government wastes there. For once the government used what they had or could acquire cheaply and quickly.

mayor of Pcola used to live across the street from me, back when he was a sportswriter for the local paper

nice guy, and had the foresight to borrow a few snowplows from Atlanta before the storm, main thoroughfares were passable the morning after

You’re a fricking idiot. Get off the internet. You think naming a storm makes your deductible go up? L - O - fricking - L

I really don’t see “named storm” on any policies or quotes I see. I see “wind” or wind/hail”.

There is a named storm deductible on every single builders risk policy I see. And I see a lot of them.

Mine does.

I have separate deductibles for wind/hail for a regular thunderstorm and another one if it’s a “named storm.”

I’ve owned three different houses and also have a rental with different insurance companies and have had similar language in all of them.

What’s the deductible difference?

Honestly curious. Builder’s risk is more like commercial insurance than homeowners, but you bring up an interesting point.

They could have at least stopped at Homedepot and grabbed one of those fertilizer spreaders.

My named storm deductible is $7,000+ and it is a percentage of what I have your house insured for.

Regular deductible is $1,000.

Generally There are 3 types of storm deductibles down here

Wind/hail (all claims wind/hail related)
Named storm (all claims named storm related)
Hurricane (all claims hurricane related)

Some companies give you an option to choose one. The hurricane deductible is the best claims-wise because your higher deductible will apply to less claim potential. However, premium-wise, it will cost more to have a hurricane deductible for this reason. Obviously wind/hail would the be best premium-wise

It can get a little more complicated, for instance Some companies have also begun taking the wind hail and allowing you to split it into one deductible for wind/hail and a separate deductible for named storm or hurricane

It’s a mess down here, but for the most part the first 3 are the standard storm deductibles you’ll see on a policy. Hurricane is generally the one you’ll see the least, wind/hail is what you’ll see on most policies
