re: Penn State knew Sandusky was a pedophile in 1971.

However, the current players and students had absolutely nothing to do with it. The administration has been completely gutted and restocked. The football staff as well. I don’t get why we’d punish them for this.

not condoning the death penalty for SMU in the 80's but to me paying recruits is much different than the people in charge allowing children to be molested and/or never making sure he was brought to justice in the beginning...condoning that to me is as bad as the act itself
No doubt.
I'm just saying I don't think kids at school there TODAY, as in 2016, should suffer NEW punishment for this.
JoePa is dead, Sandusky hasn't coached there in nearly 20 years and is in jail, the program had some very stiff sanctions for several years following this, etc.

The NCAA exists to enforce rules for fair play, not common law. SMU of the 80s falls under the rules jurisdiction of the NCAA. The stuff that happened at PSU was criminal, which is outside the scope of the NCAA and should be handled by the proper authorities.

A legitimate argument, but I have a different opinion. The athletic department at PSU covered up the crimes of a coach for decades, thereby allowing that coach (who might be the best at his job in the country) to continue coaching. It's the same if coaches covered up the crimes of a player to allow him to continue playing. I think it's a criminal matter and an NCAA issue.

Sandusky was a predator for decades, using his position and charity to prey on vulnerable children without a father figure in their lives. He raped dozens of young boys, including his own step-son. Joe Paterno knew about it, to some extent, for decades and did nothing about it. Penn St. knew about it for decades and did nothing about it.
Unfortunately, found this to be the norm when cases involved predators that were attached to institutions or organizations. Protect the brand and protect the pocketbook at all costs. I know it's hard for many to understand, but outside of homicide, sexual abuse is the only other crime that changes the course of a human's history. Believe me when I say that there is not a spot in hell hot enough for these types of beings.

The NCAA publishes a set of rules and covering up pedophilia isn't in there (I'm making an educated guess here), so it's still outside their jurisdiction.
ETA: I'm not one for granting the NCAA any authority other than what the members agree to. If you allow a liberal interpretation of rules granting the NCAA authority over this then there's no telling what else they'll stick their nose into.

Sandusky is supposedly writing a book about all this. If true and if he finds a publisher, I would reckon there are some nervous people out there.

SJW’s will someday defend perverts like Sandusky and the North American Man/Boy Love Association.

Glad they got those wins restored
It's really helping their community heal

Yes they will and you have to be incredibly naive to think otherwise. Who would choose a life of pedofilia, therefore they must be born that way. Haven't we all heard that argument already?

I agree there should not be any additional on field punishments. It's a new staff, new players, new administration, etc. Time to move on as far as on field punishments go. However, all wins since 1971 should be stripped from the record as should any reference of Paterno and Sandusky in any university publication, building names, etc. Let PSU football start from scratch, but eliminate any sense of tradition and pride they have from that era because it was all built around a disgusting lie.

Weren't they supposed to have bowl bans for the next decade or some shite? Then a lot of their restrictions were lifted. Smh

Aren't there NCAA rules against general unethical behavior? Would your opinion be the same is it was a player, not a coach? Say an entire AD's office knew their star QB murdered someone and didn't report it to police. Obviously there should be a criminal investigation into that, but you don't think NCAA punishment would also be warranted?

If a man beats his wife in their home should the homeowners association fine him? No. It's outside their jurisdiction, just like the NCAA is here.

Saw this this morning, certainly changes things for Joe Paw. Not so high now.

Paterno was a sick piece of garbage. I genuinely hope Satan is anally violating the sick frick with a searing hot trident, as we speak.

The covered over a crime which gave them a competitive advantage.
