I guess that is just from my personal experience. The ones here who run gas stations are open 6am to 11 pm 7 days a week and are never ever gone for not even a single day and live in back of the store

Patel is the Hindi word for hotel… they’re not all related.

The ones here love white people. They hate the blacks though.

Patel is just a word referring to landowner. Hilariously, the word 'hotel' in Hindi and Urdu (which are mutually intelligible) is just 'hotel,' one of the many examples in South Asia of English words being translated directly. There was one Imran Khan speech in 2019 on the border skirmishes between India and Pakistan which was basically half in English. I can't find that speech right now, but here is an example of Khan speaking with English words sprinkled in, which can give context clues as to what he is talking about.

Anecdotal but they will frick over people they do business with very quickly.

I worked for an Indian based IT company for 3 years. That company would lie, cheat, and steal from its clients and it’s employees. The higher management were absolute fricksticks to all of their subordinates. Very demeaning to each other.
That said, if you were on their level or above, extremely respectful, almost to a point of awkwardness.
I’m glad I don’t work for an Indian company anymore.

It is the 19th most common surname in India. It's Gujarati. The Gujarat Region is the 9th most populous region in India and there are over 4 million (4.2 million) Patels. For comparison, Louisiana has a population (4.7 million) just slightly higher than the number of Patels in the world

Patel comes from the word ‘Patlikh,’ which was a title given by the king to someone who worked as a record keeper of crops and taxes from a piece of land. The surname ‘Patlikh’ evolved into Patel to denote a village chief or the headman of a village.

I used to work for a wholesale building materials supplier and we had some Patels that we sold to when they were renovating their properties.

The GM of my company, who was the ex president of a bank and had experience dealing with the Patels financially, used to say that to do business with them and extend them credit, you had to keep your hands around their throat and be ready to choke them if they started to not pay their bills.

I know a lot of Indian people. They are generally pretty solid citizens. Some cultural differences to overcome but not many of them rob the local quickie mart either

My Indian friends are hard-working, generally law-abiding, with a generally compassionate ethos, and just chasing that American Dream.

I’d take em any day over most of the rest.

I have an Indian friend and he has some good one liners.

He comes from a political family, works in IT. Plans to go back to India eventually as his family is loaded over there.

He’s not a Patel, different caste.

use to sell products to the granite cartel in Houston. They are an absolute pain in the arse to deal with.

I do admire their community approach to business. They take care of their own. I fricking selling to them cause they will try to beat you up on pricing for weeks. Then share their price on Sunday with all their friends to show off how good of a deal they got. I often made pretty good money on them cause i would have to start so high.

For granite, it is a true cartel. They pool together to import large quantities and are able to control the market

they also run overseas wholesale rag companies. Selling pallets of used cloths overseas. Always funny to see some G-wagon outside of shite warehouse in the hood

If they ever got their shite together, they'd own the world.

India is the poster child for falling behind by being fixated on poverty, instead of success. The industrious come here, or Western Europe for opportunity.

quote:

It is my contention that India is poor by choice and that it works very hard to stay poor. Conversely, the US is rich because it works very hard to not only maintain its wealth, but to get richer by the day. India is poor because it is fixated on poverty. Immense national resources are used to subsidize the poor and provide jobs for them. As a matter of fact jobs are sacrosanct in India, which goes to great lengths to preserve unproductive jobs. Contrast that with the United States where emphasis is put on productivity and productivity gains.

Thios is what we have been doing in the USA for a couple of decades, through the school systems. We focus on those who can't instead of those who can

No it isn't.

quote:

That article is severely out of date in several respects. India does have an unwieldy civil service, but since economic liberalization in 1991, it's economy has grown by nearly 900%. Since that article was written, the per capita GDP has significantly as well from the $500 quoted in that article to around $6,000 to $8,000 depending on what source you use. That is no small feat for a country with that many people.

India and China had been the center of the world's wealth before the colonial period, and will likely return to that status by this century's end. India's projected to grow another 900% in the next 30 years, with its GDP reaching nearly 30 trillion dollars. It's a straight up idiotic example to use India as a poster child for poverty. I've gone 10+ times since 2000, and the growth level between visits has been amazing to watch.
