Indians (dot) and Asians are who I work with, in the majority. Indians are some of the most driven, smart individuals I get the pleasure of working with. The cultural differences and idiosyncrasies are certainly there, however they are very family driven individuals and consummate professionals.

They largely avoid using our financial system too. As in they aren’t owned by the banks
They pool money to get a family member a business, and he runs it and once he is successful he uses profits to get them a business all while living on the bare minimum. It’s an interesting culture. They build wealth for the entire family and have a strong work ethic. But they don’t value vacation or leisure time at all and don’t splurge on themselves. It’s good in a way but also doesn’t seem to be a fun life either.

Dated a Patel for a bit. Parents were doctors not motel owners.

I have no problem with this….if folks are in this country legally and want to start a business, I am good with that. I find them to be generally hard-working, likeable folks.

Very interesting.
Love the food too.

Doesn’t “Patel” literally translate to the word “hotel?”
I was told it loosely translates as "inn keeper"
To the other point about skipping town on bills, not entirely untrue.
Friend was the GM of a hotel in town that was bought by some Patels. Started to get to where he couldn't get any of the contractors - plumbers, electricians, etc - that he had used regularly for years to come for service calls with any urgency. One of them finally told him "Look, since y'all were bought out, if they're gonna take their sweet arse time paying, I'm gonna take my sweet arse time coming out."
Turns out, he would submit their invoices and the new owners just wouldn't pay them for months on end with no explanation while he had guests submitting tons of shitty online reviews - plumbing leaks, no A/C, etc.
He finally said "frick it" and moved on.

Several non corporate hotels in the BR area are of this description. Good dudes. Build the hotels with cash. Paid off in 2-3 years and after that all profits.

Very hardworking people.
A lot of their work output sucks, but hardworking nonetheless.

I have an Indian friend who’s family name is Patel, and they own multiple hotels in Baton Rouge.

Have quite a few friends that are Patels, they travel and party, they love leisure time just like the rest of us.
The rest is true, in regards to hard working. Not sure about the pooling money aspect

I knew a Patel and his family owned the one hotel in my town. This is crazy on brand

That's a great thing for me! Not sure bout the "Patel" stake but those folks are great for us folk who need a clean bed, a/c and clean running water. I have club membership with three different hotel chains and Indians own most of where I've stayed in over the past 5-7 years.
