Iron sharpens iron, in zero way shape or form would I send my kid to another school to avoid competition. That is setting such a shite example for your kid that running away from competition for personal gain is acceptable.

Yeah, but the formula isn't only the top 10% of students get accepted into state schools. Those kids are guaranteed a spot but there's still room for otherwise qualified students who have good grades and standardized test scores. So kids ranked 11-30% are still probably getting in somewhere at most high schools and maybe even the top half from the best schools.

Put another way - your kid isn't necessarily competing against the top 10 at their elite school full of "hard workers" with "overbearing parents". They are competing against the top 10 from some crappy school in the sticks or the ghetto where some of the kids are in the top 10% but otherwise don't have the grades to make the cut. And even then, your kid's grades would have to be borderline by admission standards to push them out.

So it's a narrow window to aim at. I wouldn't uproot my family and change their social environment just to try to game that small window. I would make sure my kid studied and worked hard enough to stay out of the Wait List range so they could get in on merit. That's not a tall order for Texas public universities.

It’s actually a somewhat smart thing to do.

It has been interesting to observe. In many Plano schools, a white student will be in the minority. Asian students go to private tutoring businesses like Mathnasium on Saturdays. Sunday is usually spent with religious observances and family activities. Frisco and Prosper are following the same path.

Parents think these schools are great but the school ratings are being pumped up by the overachieving students, not super-gifted teachers. They put their kids in these schools and get a very good education but they’ll end up around the middle of the pack. Those same kids could get a very good education but rank nearer to the top of their class if the parents weren’t so concerned about not being able to say their kid goes to such and such school.

UT is just another state school nothing more or less. It’s comical to see the idiots here in TX act like there is some Halo effect or brag about “business honors program” lol these people are idiots. Same goes for ATM except it’s somehow even gayer even though it’s not in Austin, which is saying something.

TLDR: no, I wouldn’t move and I also will not encourage my kids to go to either UT or ATM, they should strive to do much better
