The point of moving so your kids can get accepted into UT?
Your goal shouldn't be just to get into UT.
Perhaps they should focus on improving their GPA, ACT and AP classes. If you're good enough, UT will accept you if you're 15% at an outstanding high school.

The top 25 at my daughter's middle school gets certain privileges. My kid was ranked #27l. She is a grade level ahead in math and science. She takes talented art and an academic elective (forensic science HS credit). At least half of the kids above her are on grade-level for math and science, and take BS electives like typing. Is that fair to my kid? No, but that is just how it is.

You're looking at it like they should just work harder to be top 10% at their school. I dont think anyone disagrees with working harder.
The problem is that not all schools are created equal and often the top 50% of say a "great" school is way more advanced than the top 10% of a bunch of shitty schools. So why should the top 10% of those schools get auto accepted?

My kids are still young, and I don't think we'd move over it. We are currently in The Woodlands. I do have a co-worker who just went through this though. Tons of kids don't get accepted, but still find their way. In fact he was talking about how it saved him money. Didn't get into A&M right away. Spent 1 year at another school for less money, then transferred. It's the path for a lot of kids.

I think people don’t understand that even these public schools have limits on capacity. It ain’t easy to say do better if there’s no space to accept your kid. Some of these schools with a lot of… a specific demographic are ruthless academically and can’t compete

My brother has a side gig and tutors high performing kids at the Thomas Jefferson School for Science and Technology. One of the elite high schools in the United States.
Those kids are brilliant and they're getting an outstanding education that will prepare them for college and beyond.
None of them are transferring to a mediocre high school in Fairfax County to game the system. They know that high scores and a good resume trumps being a big fish in a tiny pond.

no they won't. I have several coworkers whose kids didn't get in and all would be considered top notch students. One had a 4.2 GPA and 32 on his ACT and got rejected by UT. Posted on 2/5/24 at 1:21 pm to fareplay

When you're in college, it's not like only the top 10% of the class passes. If you're top 15% in your class in high school because there are some absurdly smart people ahead of you, that doesn't mean that you aren't smart enough to get into college and succeed

My wife went to Texas and said one of her freshman year dorm mates was valedictorian of her small high school somewhere out in the middle of nowhere West Texas and was in remedial math first semester.
Girl didn't come back the second semester but got auto admitted to Texas because of her class rank.
