Calling it travel ball is a misconception. Most play within an hour drive and might have 2/3 big tournaments a year that they go farther too. It’s really just weekend or tournament ball. That would be a better way of describing it. Doesn’t interfere with school off season programs, doesn’t interfere with football, doesn’t interfere with high school baseball. As others have said most high school baseball coaches want kids playing some form of travel ball lets the coach know the kid is serious about it.

now in smaller rural schools that is different
I grew up in south Arkansas. About as rural as it gets. If you want to play on even a 3a championship caliber high school team you better play weekend ball.

It’s not even funny though. It’s just ignorant. For multiple reasons.1. Their own arguments don’t hold up. The kids who make it to the mlb now actually were on mostly travel teams. 2. It’s not baseball specific. Almost all youth sports teams now have some variation of this. As has been mentioned already ITT, you’ve got dance, cheer, pageants, volleyball, soccer, basketball, softball, hockey, motorcross, etc. not to mention your country club sports that have always cost an arm and a leg or the guys who will shell out ungodly amounts of money for their kids to have the best bass or duck boat and gear to go with it. So the people who say these things thinking they’re being funny just come across as morons.

supporting my kids doing what they love is silly?

Now I understand why you are freaking out. You pay a lot for travel ball and attack anyone who suggests that it may not be the golden path. Now it makes sense.

Let us know when the scholarship and NIL money comes in.

We probably spent that much annually on my kids gymnastics career. $5k annually for instruction. Like $4k for gear and meet fees. Then the travel expenses all over the South. Over expensive hobby but she had fun. We had fun going to them.

Agreed. Additionally, my daughter (no pics) did end up with a diving scholarship. She also is the hardest worker of anyone I know and just will not fail at things. It's the same with all her gymnast former teammates. They are tough at nails. I would never bet against any of them. But that's the same an anyone who is doing sports at a fairly high level. The problem is that now there are much lower levels of competition that cost a pretty penny and are not getting the same results. It's because all those parents don't want to hear that Johnny or Susie isn't good enough so levels/leagues, etc. have been created for Johnny and Susie and the teams and clubs will gladly take their money even though the coaches know that Johnny and Susie just ain't all that!

anyone that does travel ball for a scholarship or nil money is dumb af

thats always the go to for clowns like you..... and even if the kid gets a scholarship yall double down.

how about its just about supporting a kid and allowing him to pursue a dream because i can afford it

here is something you may not imagine...some people make more money that you and they can afford all kinds of things you cant.

Sports is great for children ,because it teaches teamwork, discipline, fundamentals, and sportsmanship. This shite is just crazy and a waste of money. When I was young we had a local league of 4-6 teams and you would practice and play a season schedule and everything was local. It was simple and you went to school with most of the kids in that league. Alot of these parents need to realize that for about 99% of athletes genetics will get them to the next level and beyond. Even if it appears your kid has the genetic makeup you should still keep it simple until they are in high school and should also let them play multiple sports. This is just doing way too much for kids at this age.

nope, but that's one of the appeals for this travel ball farce's popularity, all of the fraternization among the parents while at these tournaments
