This isn’t as bad as the OP makes it seem. Many of these are parents who set up 529 plans for college, the kid got scholarships and they rolled it into another interest bearing account and there’s the kid’s down payment on their first home. Responsible people have been doing this for years.

MIZZ doesn't care what Scruffy thinks.
MIZZ will care when they end up raiding all of our 401ks because the boomers gave zero shits about creating a better world for their offspring, like most generations before them and those generations after them.

MIZZ holds no malice in his heart toward any generation, but MIZZ has had a belly full of reading how Boomers fricked them over when MIZZ personally had no hand in any of the developments that lead things to their present state.
Voting patterns among generations are a data point that cannot be disregarded, especially on local politics.

MIZZ grows weary of watching Scruffy cry a river. Boot straps. Pick thyself up by them
As has been said many times before, Scruffy isn’t one of the individuals suffering the current economic system, but he isn’t so retarded, like MIZZ’s generation, to disregard the future sociopolitical impacts.

You guys are so unbelievably shortsighted that it is fascinating to see.

I take it you have a problem with this boomer?

Note the lack of comma in the statement. I think he was making a reference that the father of these two women is a Boomer.

That’s awesome. Isn’t the goal for each generation to be able to provide your kids a little better than your parents did for you? So each generation grows.

That’s the goal. Unless you’re someone like my Boomer father who is resentful that I’ve done better for myself than he did for himself. Then everything is transactional. So I stopped asking for his help for pretty much everything a long time ago. Thankfully, the future FIL isn’t that way and he and MIL are around a lot more as a result.

We started putting money back for the step kid years ago. She’ll get that when she turns 18 later this year.

I bought a house for myself/investment property, but in my daughter's name....if I pass away, she'll already own it taxes free. It would go to her anyway
Gonna slide it into a trust that kids are both part of.

Exactly this.

What's the point of leaving them megabucks when they're in their 40s or 50s and well-established in their careers?

I know quite a few people who are doing this, or similar things.

I'll now return the board now to its regularly scheduled programming;

" Boomer Hate or, ' Why weren't my parents more successful?' ".

My daughter downsized her wedding and we gave them a down payment on their house. Do it again in a heartbeat.

Largely, yes, although it is really any of those who disregard the current economic situation of the younger generations and their views as simply “whining”.

Disregarding it will bite us all in the arse once they gain voting numbers.

In 2012 I started my first full time job and moved from college and renting. Rented about one year before started to look at buying. My grandmother gave me $10,000 to get started. I bought a $33,000 HUD home at under 3%. Fixed it up and made it a good starter, became a rental, and then I sold it for $120k about a decade later. Got me into real estate by mistake and it was very helpful. I don't have an issue or think it is strange to help lif family in the beginning. I was fortunate to get all my college degrees without loans and debt so this was the only gift I ever received.

I have two neighbors. One is a teacher and husband is an entry level stock broker - they bought a house for 1.5m and another 250-300k for a renovation. The other is a stay at home mom and dad works for entergy, unsure the role, for 1.25m and added a pool. Was shocked to see the kids buying at this price point until my MIL told us the parents/grandparents gifted them nearly 50-60% of the purchase price. I get it but at the same time there is zero chance the kids are able to give that benefit to their kids.

ETA: clarification on gift

I get it. I had no family like that. But, we will help our boys purchase to some extent.
