If it’s in the right area and the parents have the cash, parking money in a good house is as good as any other way for them to invest it.

The help I am giving for my kids' first home purchase is zero student loan debt from college (undergrad and post-grad)

My parents pay my mortgage as long as I keep Life360 running on my phone.

I'd probably take that deal. My life isn't that interesting anymore

My grandparents bought forty acres and gave each child a portion to build.

Man I'm on both sides of this.
Me and my wife bought out house on our own almost a decade ago... a nice new construction 3/2 in a great neighborhood for $215k. These days that same house is 300+
I would have hard-core judged anyone doing this but my God housing really is getting unobtainable these days. Back then I would have moved by now... but it just doesnt make sense to between the cost and rates.

We have a 4 BR that's 2500+ sq ft and we're about to be empty nesters.
Honestly, we don't need this house anymore, but it would be more expensive to downsize. I'm sure there are plenty of people in this same situation due to the wild fluctuation in prices and rates in the past 15 years or so.

Yeah, generational wealth is horrible.

We ran the numbers, and it just made no sense. Moving costs, realtor commissions, etc to buy a smaller house that costs more than we paid for this one (not paid off yet) at almost triple the interest rate.

Since I’ve graduated college my parents haven’t given us any money.
My wife’s parents put back some $$ for her as a kid and gave it to her when she turned 18 - thankfully wife didn’t touch it and we used that $$ ($32,000 or so) as apart of our down payment on our latest home.
Very thankful that. We’re going to do the same for our kids - it won’t be enough to buy a house, but it’ll hopefully be enough to make things just a little easier.

Some families have enough money and don’t buy or help with the house just to make the kids work.
They end up with even more inheritance because all the money that would’ve been spent to help the kids purchase the home is making money in the stock market.
If this makes you angry I got some stories that will really make you mad. The guy that does this at least spends. Imagine dudes that don’t need the flash but know at 20 it doesn’t matter if they are even employed because their life is literally covered as well as their kids because of great investing by the father.
It’s not fair to judge your friend because his family is successful. That’s outright jealousy and envy which is where 90% of people seem to live these days.
Get hungry and get there yourself so you don’t have to be angry at someone else.

Boggles my mind why someone would be upset because you helped your kid lol.
People are such low iq and lazy humans they would rather steal your shite or talk bad about you like a bitch instead of earning.
It is what it is b

I got no help. Weird to see people so reliant on their parents into their late 20’s and 30’s.

I didn’t “buy” my daughter a house but I helped her out with a lot of the front money. I consider it an advance on her inheritance. The money she gives back is added back to her share when that time comes. Good for her as she got the house she wanted but was otherwise above her budget.

Exactly.
I’m 30. My parents didn’t give me money for a down payment on a house. But they paid for college, gave me a reliable used truck, and let me live with them for a couple years when I first started working to save up.
I did my part by not wasting their generosity and working hard. Now I’m married with a kid, good income, and in a nice home with a 3.2% rate. It ain’t the big fancy life you see people chasing on social media these days, but it’s a damn good life to me.
