Don't worry. With this attitude you won't have friends for long anyway.

We got little or no help along the way. Nothing really after college. Our families did what they could and raised us well.and for that I appreciate their efforts more than any $. I didn't look down on our many friends that got more family contributions along the way.

My elderly mother on other hand still mentions her friends that have gotten or still get family contributions. It just makes her sound jealous and a little bitter rather than being proud.of herself and comfortable in the good financial situation she eventually built for herself. Kinda sad but glad it didn't rub off on me somehow because I definitely remember her remarks growing up about friends.and.relatives that had leg up with parents funding college, homes, or even just family vacations.
Come to think of it she didnt hesitate to let us help her pay to visit us overseas

What’s the point of having money if you can’t use it to help your family?

We make pretty decent money (not ballers) and really aren't big spenders on ourselves these days. I'd honestly rather help my kids than spend it on myself, at least until they are established.

I realize not everyone can afford it, or have a different philosophy regarding this, but to me setting my kids up to be successful is a worthy investment.

My wife would spoil the shite out of them if I let her. I just try to make sure we help them with the big things and let them figure the rest out themselves.

I probably need more of this perspective.

Tbh I am just baffled that the board responded in this way. I was expecting way more of I didn’t take/give or give a handout.

Why? Helping a child or children - adult[s] - is out of bounds? Whoa nellie....seems a peach has fallen from the carton

That's a mature response. You still have time to shift your mindset and avoid becoming a bitter old @#$%. I love my mom but her negative outlook is tiresome. A terrible childhood will do that to people though.

Besides, your friends will eventually pick up on your resentment and condescension and distance themselves.

this translates to "I wasn't offered/able to take/give a handout"

who in their right mind wouldn't let their parents give them a major financial advantage?

Nothing new and I actually recommend it for some of my clients.

Interesting take.

As a late high school and adult parent with grand kids, I’d happily buy homes for my kids to have my grand children living near by.

The Baby Boomer generation ruined home ownership. I don't see how kids today will be able to afford a home when they grow up

Kids today don't know what a "starter" home is.

They think a commute of more than 20 minutes is a hardship. Butter soft.

Parents are supposed to set their children up for success.

*sigh*

You better hope you are part of the older boomers who die before the younger generations gain majority voting power.

Because of how flippant you chodes have been, they are going to come for your net worth, 401ks, etc.

The older generations are so short-sighted that it isn’t surprising that a large number of them are drowning in debt and broke.

Because you’re jealous their parents did better than yours?

You’re not really a grownup if people are subsidizing your life.

Yes, they do have the money. But don't believe in helping.
I think we have the same parents

We paid all of our children's expenses and cars/insurance through college and they rewarded us by getting good jobs and buying much bigger homes for themselves than we could afford. We joke and tell them they will inherit a small house in a great airbnb area lol.

MIZZ doesn't care what Scruffy thinks.

MIZZ holds no malice in his heart toward any generation, but MIZZ has had a belly full of reading how Boomers fricked them over when MIZZ personally had no hand in any of the developments that lead things to their present state.

MIZZ grows weary of watching Scruffy cry a river. Boot straps. Pick thyself up by them.

MIZZ says to chode Scruffy get busy living or get busy dying.

builders do not build starter homes today. And the ones that are built from generations ago are not sitting empty? Where can we find one of these magical starter homes?

I helped both of my kids buy a house. I’m fortunate to be able to do so. What parent wouldn’t want to do this?

Home/rent prices in metro ATL are ridiculous. I don’t see how you can possibly save enough for a down payment when rent is where it is currently.

I have 3 kids. I’m not helping any buy a home nor pay for their college. Glad for those that are doing that. I do try my best to help them out in other ways but nothing as financially significant as down payment on a house.
