Kids at this age are strange eaters, powdered mac n cheese is their gourmet; but you were right to make him at least try it. Spoiled brat kids are miserable adults no one wants to live with.

My mom was the same way. She stuck with it and we finished the meal.

He’ll eat what’s given to him. The wife made that meal and imo, it is disrespectful to not eat what is provided to you. That’s the way I was raised.

Sir, this deserves one million billion upvotes and alas I can only give it one.

With our kids, they didn’t have to eat what we served, but they could never eat anything different. It was the meal on the table or no meal and no snacks. They can resume eating next meal time.

He won’t starve to death with food in front of him.

My kids have turned out great. In our house if a kid did not like what was for dinner they could make themselves a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

But once the gauntlet is thrown down and there is a conflict between a parent and a child the parent must win and everyone in the house must know the parent had won.

And don’t give it back for whatever length of time you said. It works.

My dad tried that on me with squash one time. He had to go to work on no sleep the next day. I've still never eaten squash

Seriously though, life is short. Why embitter your kid

For that very reason. Life is short and he doesn't want to deal with an entitled little shite all because he was to lazy to parent when he had the chance...

That’s how we roll. We pick our battles. What they do and don’t eat isn’t a battle.

We will make or order whatever they will eat. Now we don’t shove fast food down their throats, they know what’s healthy and what they’re allowed to eat.

Forcing your kids to eat food just because you’re on some power trip never ends well.

If he's throwing a tantrum, beat his arse.

If he's simply refusing to eat it, don't worry, if he gets hungry enough, he'll eat it.

My father did both. Eventually I ate what was in front of me because I was hungry.

Has he eaten that meal before and not liked it? Or is this a new dish?

A lot of kids don’t like trying new stuff so try coaxing him to try a few bites.

However if he has eaten it before and was fine with it but it just wasn’t his preferred meal tonight then he should eat it out of respect.

If he had it before but didn’t like it and you knew that then don’t be a dick and force him. Cook him a hot dog and wrap his meal up and eat it yourself for lunch tomorrow.
