Unreal, those damn Mormons no doubt

Officials report that one vehicle T-boned another while trying to make a left from Old Hammond to Millerville. Neither driver was injured, but the toddler, who officials said was unrestrained, was thrown forward during the collision.

When I was about 6 years old, I'd go cut wood with my dad about 10 miles from our house. I used to ride in the back of the truck on top of the wood pile on the way home.

I've seen so many 3-4 year olds climbing around in the back seat completely unrestrained. Not even sitting. Seems like the easiest ticket in the world to write but for some reason they must be pretty lenient on it or people would stop.

Fired a driver the other day after I found out he used the company van to bring his girlfriend and their baby somewhere. It's a delivery van with only two seats. She sat in the passenger seat and held the baby while they drove from LSU area to North BR.

If you drive around on Atlanta interstates with regularity you'd see it weekly if not daily.

It's maddening as a parent. As an observer of news/culture, it's pretty annoying that something like this - so prevalent in some communities - won't ever be written about, minimal studies conducted, etc. even though it's right there in the open for everyone to see.

Where was this? In the city? I unbuckled once to climb into the back seat. Dad got pulled over and got a ticket.

I too, as a 6 year old, rode around in the back of a pickup truck all the time.

When riding in a car, I have absolutely no recollection of sitting in a booster seat or
toddler seat as a young child. My grandparents had a Cadillac and we drove to Colorado in it when I was five. I’d ride on the arm rest.

I rode a bike without a helmet and drank out of a garden hose…now get off my lawn!!!

Seriously though, it’s probably better that kids ride in booster seats. But being an attentive, defensive driver is far more important.

I'm pretty sure that car restraints and their safety benefits have been written about.

If not, I am pissed I spent $400 on my son's car seat.

I'm referring to certain groups of people who completely disregard these safety measures and the laws that require them.

My parents brought my brother home from the hospital by putting him in a blanket and setting him in the foot well behind the passenger seat. This was 1975.

Those safety measures are literally institutional racism, as they're designed to hold people back.

You'd be amazed how many toddlers and infants I see sitting on laps in carpool... Actually, you probably wouldn't. Dumbassery is the norm in Baton Rouge.

For the driver of the unsecured toddler right?

I was almost rear-ended the other day by an SUV, the young kid (3 or 4) was standing between the passenger seat and dashboard while the lady (assume mom) was taking selfies of her and the kid in the car. Actually, heard the tires skid as I lost sight of their hood in my rearview mirror, no one was phased by how close they were. I can only imagine how sick I would have been had they hit me, and that airbag deployed; even though I would have had no fault in the accident.

I remember laying on the rear dash or climbing into the trunk through the little center console access on the back seat of my grandparents Grand Marquis trying to escape the cigarette smoke cause they never rolled down the windows

Same. Though I remember riding in one of these on a 6 hour road trip

Rural Missouri. Back then you didn't even have to wear seat belts. Now in Missouri, you can't ride in the back of a truck unless you're 18 I believe.

Back in the early 80's my mom went to visit her cousin in Houston. Something came apart in the motor while she was there and my dad said we gotta go get her. Put my sister up front with him in the El Camino and told my little brother and I to hop in the back. 5 hours later we were in Houston and he was working on her car.

When I was a youngin my baby sister used to ride standing up on the front seat. It's a wonder any of us survived.
