BATON ROUGE – An irate parent attacked a basketball official during a winter league game at the Perkins Road Community Park indoor court, WBRZ has learned.

The “attack,” as described by league organizers, resulted in additional security going forward.

The league will also change how officials determine play calls during a game – to allow players “of all skill levels to learn and grow.”

“… Each game will not be called the exact same,” a Winter League official wrote in an email to parents and obtained by WBRZ.

But, parents were warned to keep their cool: “...This type of behavior will not be tolerated,” the league warned.

A sheriff’s deputy will be on duty for the last two playing dates to keep the peace and overly aggravated parents, coaches or players will be removed.

Winter League costs about $200 per player and is organized for kids between Pre-K age and 8-th grade. There are more than 85 teams in the league, according to its website.

If that pink ref wouldn’t have blown the whistle against my boy then none of this would have needed to happen. Jackass needs to open his eyes and keep the whistle out of his mouth.

I reffed a lot of different sports at pretty much all age levels.

The WORST, BY FAR, were games that involved kids of this age. Parents are the worst.

I'd rather ref IM games with drunk frat boys than that shite.

That's a nice facility. I go watch a friend of mine's kids play there. But what do parents who do this shite think? Seriously?

When I was in HS I use to do the books for little league games and I could never understand some parents acting the way they did. They are in public, they don't just make themselves look stupid, it hurts their kids. How are they not able to control themselves?

It's mostly white kids who play there.

I'm gonna need the race of the perp to determine my level of outrage.

I will also need the race of the referee.

If the ref was black and the perp was white then we've got ourselves some serious outrage.

"Us black folk cant even referee a basketball game without fear of being attacked by whitey"

You have an entire board (Saints Board) hoping violent acts are committed on referees in retaliation of a missed call. Sports stupidity is not unique to Baton Rouge.

Seeing this in 7-8 NON-COMPETITIVE league basketball where some kids are playing for the first time.

The refs call different based on the kids skill level and...hell...coordination. When your team is up 18-0 and the awkward kid on the other team accidentally double dribbles...get the frick over it when the ref lets the play continue and coaches the kid up between plays.

Instead...overweight mom in her knockoff lululemon playing on her phone goes ape shite yelling at the kid ref basically donating his time to give these kids a chance to play.

My 2nd grader plays in a similar league. two weeks ago we had a parent behind us on talking 8 ways of bullshite to an official. Ref, a younger guy, looked at the dad at just about end of 4th quarter and said, "you know your kid isn't going pro right? Relax, he's having fun" Kid was all smiles running down the court. Dad got quiet. No way I would have handled it that well at that age
