cats are always shite on by the general public but the older I get, man the more I may prefer cats over dogs. If you get a good one (same would apply for any pet though really) they are awesome.

Current owner of 4 dogs, a cat, bearded dragon and cockatiel.

They're a damn mess but also very loveable..and that includes the beardie. First thing my son does every morning is run to his enclosure and grab him out and take him into the shower.

Every other day he poops in the shower so it keeps him regular.

I wake the bird up and he tells me "geaux tigers" then whistles the LSU pregame complete with sassy head jerk on the final note.

The cat does his thing but mostly chills outside stalking chipmunks.

The dogs are loud, muddy, rambunctious, naughty and stinky. they're perfect

Couldn't agree more. We have adopted an eighty pound Golden Doodle, Sophie, from my passed MIL. She is always following us around, rolls in the dirt, requires her ball all the time and snipes the other two small dogs food. Also have a 19 year old Dorkie, Izzy, that pissed and shits where ever she want's and her 14 year old daughter, Rebecca. She's cool though.
But i wouldn't trade them for anything in the world.

I like pets, but can't justify sinking thousands of dollars into them over the course of my life.

A few years back, my dog was given 6 months at best. He lived for 22 months without issue. His favorite thing was to take walks, I took him almost everyday for those 22 months. During covid, he would get multiple walks a day. He had the best 22 months of his life, and I lost 15 pounds.

I have a (nearly) two year old Husky and a baby Himalayan kitten.

They love each other and make me happy.

Both are PITA but I would not imagine life without them.

Damn, at some point you’re going to have to toilet train your son

I'm so sorry. Pets are so special. I lost my best friend of 15 years in September and in still makes me sad thinking about it. I have another dog, but its not the same, which just shows how much of a bond you form with those little guys. They are really the best. I love pets.

Looking for recs on gear (collars, beds, etc).

It's not that hard. Get a bed at Costco or somewhere and the collars at Petsmart are fine. Get a tag with your contact info. Kirkland dog food from Costco is highly regarded. Invest in some training.

You are so right. Honestly, people don't deserve animals, and it's a shame their life spans are so short. Best of luck tomorrow, maybe you will get good news.

We all know the feeling you’re going through. You’re not alone brother.

It’s one of the worst things any man has to do in life. It’s right there with a relative or friend passing away. Animals are different because you take care of them every single day. They depend on you and they are by your side no matter what.

A pet owners responsibility is to give their pets a good life. Unfortunately part of that is to give them a good death. I always wish they would just go to sleep one night and not wake up but that’s not how it works.

That would be the best for any of us to go. 2020 was particularly bad since I had to put down one of my dogs (13 years old) and our cat (almost 16) just a few months apart. You have to be in there with them because you should never let them go through that alone.

Our cat got cancer and had to be put down two years ago. Here lungs were filling up with fluid so we had them drained as part of the diagnosis. She perked up a little but we knew it was just a matter of days or weeks before it got worse.

The day came where we could tell it was starting to get bad so we had a service come out to the house to put her to sleep. While that was rough it was nice to not have to put her through the stress of going to the vet again just for that. It was an older lady who gave us all of the time we needed before and after it was done. Then she took the cat away to be cremated. I highly recommend this route if it's an option for anyone.

Put this on the list of things I could never do right there with hospice nurse. I'm thankful there are people in the world that can do this, but I never could.

Man a ton of crazy cat/dog people here....

I have a dog. He is great...he is a shithead. But he is still an animal.
