Nothing wrong with buying experiences. Some people even put more value in what you can learn from a trip over what you can learn in a classroom.

I think it's a faulty assumption that a private education is always better than a public.

If you live in Williamson County Tennessee your public school can rival any Private school in the Louisiana area. Ravenwood High school sends kids to every Ivy League school imaginable.

Private schools dont have the resources and money to do all the AP and honors courses that a good publuc school can. We also send our kids to the number one rated school system in the state.
I went to private school for 13 years and it doesn't hold a candle to the education my kids are getting. I was so ill prepared for college and I was in all honor classes in school.
Sounds like you went to a really low quality private school. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.

I don't have kids either. I just think your premise of a "Private education is always better than a public education" is faulty.
That wasn't the case where I grew up in LA and it's not the case here in NOVA. I agree typically a private education is better but it's not always the case.

A great public school is 10x better than most private schools. So much more opportunity. Which do you think would have the best teachers? A school paying 60k or more plus excellent benefits, retirement and pension, or one paying about 30k with few benefits?
Again, I'm not advocating anyone sending their child to a cheap, small, religious private school with no resources. I'm talking about a top tier prep school with massive endowments, where teachers are required to have (or be working on) doctorates and are paid like college professors. You know, a school where your kid gets a top tier education during their most formative years.

Yeah, I'm not referring to "religious" private schools. The best private schools in the country are not religious.
So you are saying the better parental move is to ship my kids off to a boarding school?

I mean look at Highland Park High School in Dallas?
I went to a smaller public school that was mostly white and almost everyone was middle class or higher up and my parents drove a Benz and an F-250 Lariat.
No one cares about private school's in Texas though. You only go there if you don't play sports.
ETA: I honestly would have been pissed at my parents if they sent me to a private school.

Well you are a Pecker... But anyone, it was a decent school, just a religious school. So mass once a week was more important than Physics. But, were I lived, you had no choice.
Where I live now, public schools blow away the local private schools.

People are selfish and stupid.
This is the OT, so it is a much higher factor.
Now you have your answer.

but even still, is there not a private school nearby where you don't have to settle for "decent?"
My children were driven enough to get a great education in a public school.
Sorry you had to pay out the arse for yours

I'm sorry your parents were forced to send you to only a decent school.
I'm also sorry that the private schools in your area are so poor that even the public schools are considerably better.

The public schools in my ISD are better then most private schools. When our kids reach school age you better believe they are going to public schools. I pay for it though with my higher property taxes compared to say Dallas ISD.

I took my 15 year old daughter to London last year with the money I saved from sending her to BRHMS. She is crushed, I'm sure. She hates us for all the great experiences, great vacations, luxury cars, awesome home, etc. I just finished watching her play a short acoustic set at a coffee shop and I could tell she feels deprived. I really should think about sending that 20k every year I save on my three kids education to The Catholic Church. They could use that 250k+ more than I can, I'm sure.

Because the parents are douchebags like the OP and worried what others think
Ravenwoods testscores compete with those private schools you listed.

I'm sincerely happy for your children and I think their story is one that symbolizes what the American Dream is all about. Through their hard work and determination, they were able to overcome the difficult situation they found themselves in, in the American public education system. You gave them lemons, and they made sweet, sweet lemonade. I'm sure you're proud.
