The hatred for New Orleans is overrated on here. It's not a good place to live but still awesome to visit.

Atlanta isn't really overrated, it's as-advertised IMO. Plenty of people hate it, it's not a secret. Houston is exactly the same at Atlanta in that regard. New Orleans is similar, it's widely believed to be a fun, interesting, crime-infested hellhole, which is true.

Nashville is probably still overrated, although people are figuring that out.

Outside of the whole Cajun influence, it's pretty average. But when it's compared to Lake Charles, BR, and NOLA it stands out (in terms of crime, education and things like that).

For a city of it's size in the deep south, being "average" is very good

It's a great place to raise a family, not really a great place to visit, IMO.

I moved further away from the gulf coast and encountered so many people that didn't have the slightest clue of much crime and general shittyness the city has to offer. Now I agree it can be fun place to visit with great food but outside that...not much to praise

How much to do really know about NOLA? sounds like, not much.

While it tends to be a shithole thanks to the current administration, it is an international city with history, architecture, food, culture, entertainment, music.

Name another southern city comparable? I'd say NYC is the only real comparible to NOLA but obviously on a MUCH bigger scale.

NOLA will be called overrated on this board while simultaneously telling us daily what a shite hole it is. I’m not sure anyone on the OT can call New Orleans overrated

Calling it a shite hole is overrating it, worse than that

It is grossly overrated by people from Lafayette. If it wasn't for them it would be underrated. And cool.

Being raised in Lafayette and having been gone for two decades, that’s the issue. I know people in Lafayette who swear that their festivals and restaurants are basically the equivalent of New Orleans, and that’s just funny to me
