If I know I am going to a bar I always stop and get cash out. Do that.

you must not frequent bars a lot. The pending charges are going to go away.

I went to the bank and filled out a form when the Food & Fun charged me twice.

Got a credit on my account a week or two later.

I used my debit card to grab a beer once and was charged over $2500. When the bar tender was putting in tips, they accidentally typed in some crazy number. No way they were just trying to steal....it was an absurd number and I knew the bar tender through other people. As a college student, it over-drafted my account. Bar quickly fixed it on their end and the bank waved fees when I explained the situation to them.

Last time I got overcharged at a bar, the good people at Chase told me I was SOL as far as getting the bank to dispute it or refund the charges.

I don't use a debit card but don't you have to enter a pin for every transaction? If so, then either you're an idiot and didn't pay attention to the total or the bartender has your pin.

no

Unless, I think, your card is a debit/credit card in which case the transactions would be rung up as credit and now you have dispute options.

This is true. It would have to be run as credit so the same protections apply.

A lot of bars are notorious for this.

I got popped with $300 of charges from Fred’s after a football game once. Never used my credit card there again. The only bars I use my card at are nice sit down ones.

I used to go to the Londoner fairly frequently and if I used a card of any time I would always get 3 separate charges. None of them would be for the correct amount. A week later all 3 of the charges would drop off my account and the correct one would appear.

I think some bars just use this billing system that has a shitty overkill method of pinging an account.

I wonder how many times I've been annihilated at a bar in college and been overcharged and just assumed the next day I legitimately spent that much at the bar.

I bet its in the triple digits

You must not open tabs very often. Assuming the $20 charge was the one that was finalized since that was your final tab....

The $10 charge was most likely to hold your card open as that is the minimum for most cards.

The $30 charge was probably an error when they inputted your actual $20 charge and the $10 hold (or the bar has an archaic system that does this automatically).

$20 charge was legit.

Call the bank.

Most adults could figure this out on their own.
