You’re comparing apples to oranges. With cd’s and DVD’s you own an actually physical copy. With streaming and on demand music and movies you own nothing. What you have is an agreement for the use of a digital copy. Violate the terms of the agreement and you lose all access for use of the digital copy. Don’t believe me, go ahead and violate the terms of Apple iTunes for example and see if you have access to all the movies and music you “purchased”.

As long as they have data caps it doesn't seem worth it to stream either. We use 500-600 Gbs without it already.

I've talked to a few young people who don't "get" the concept of owning music. They figure in a few years they'll be listening to different shite.
I wondered about that when I was young, too, but my experience has shown it is not true for me. There are certain albums I have not outgrown or gotten sick of. Probably most of the music I own falls into this category.
