This part makes me think about what were/are the long term impact from the great recession. If anyone has any books they can suggest that touches on this please let me know.

Matt Taibbi made his career by covering it for Rolling Stone before they became a garbage magazine.

His articles were combined into a book:
Griftopia: A Story of Bankers, Politicians, and the Most Audacious Power Grab in American History

I read the articles in real time as they were printed in each issue. Highly recommend his writing if you have never read him.

I lived in br for years and never even knew it was there. I can also say with absolute certainty that I never once went to that area of town.

I used to get outback every couple months, it was on the way home from work

Decent ribeye with 2 sides and bread for like $20

Outback has gone to shite since covid, last time I got it last year it was like a golden corral steak or something. Never again

I've eaten there a few times, but ordered out from them quite often. I don't understand the closure; the place was always packed.

Jasmines is always packed. Even with their big new addition. They will be fine. Plus their pockets must be deep if they were able to close down for almost a year during the remodel.

I think they do a lot of take out business as well.

Worked at the one on Acadian in the early 2000’s. Great times and great people! Was easy money while in school.

The strangest thing about the Jones Creek Outback is that its on the blue interstate restaurant sign for Millerville exit. I dont think of that Outback as being off the Millerville exit... but I guess it is/was. I always chuckle when I see it because I imagine some out of towner seeing that sign wanting Outback, but they have to drive like 4 miles through multiple interesections and turns.

Outback used to be real good. They went to crap sometime around 2010 with their shrinkflation.

My wife and I used to regularly go here to eat. We loved the prime rib. The last 6-8 times we went, the service was so bad that we quit going.

2-3 times we got up and left after no one came to our table after 20 minutes or so.

One time at that location I had a waitress quit mid shift. She got our drinks, brought the appetizer, took our order…then never showed up again. We kept looking for her and didn’t see her. After not receiving our food 30 minutes after ordering we flagged down what looked to be the manager telling him we did not get our order and we did not see our waitress anywhere. He apologized. He told us she just quit, walked out, and left all of her tables unattended. He offered to comp our meal.

We went to that outback in June bc someone gave us a gift card. Well, we ordered for curbside pick up. It was good.

There isn’t much on this side of town we frequent - everything is just ‘ok’

It also could be the beef contracts are up for renewal in January and it isn't looking good at all.
Outback usually procures their beef from three vendors located on the Kansas city area, this is a means of quality control. The contracts come up for renewal every 3 years (at least back in 2020)
Now you have increased payroll, rent / mortgage, utilities, renovations / maintenance--- the list goes on.
But the beef contracts are what make or break the restaurant.
