Our Lady of the Lake turn down NOLA and JP visitors and residents

“The Lake cancelled all surgeries on NOLA and Jefferson Parish residents for the next 6 months and anyone who’s a resident of or recently visited jefferson or nola aren’t allowed inside the hospital.”
I don’t know how to upload pictures, but this is from a buddy who is a surgeon over there. His kid was in school in New Orleans of course tried to come home this weekend but the doctors can’t have any contact with people from infected areas. Sheesh they won’t even let the kid go to his own family’s house.
An infectious disease doctor from Tulane medical center spoke on Facebook live yesterday about the 200 confirmed cases, but with minimal testing available in his opinion multiply that by 50 to get an accurate number of infected in New Orleans alone. The city is so much of a hotbed that largest hospital in the state only an hour away is refusing entry. Seems drastic but makes sense because most infected are asymptomatic. Shows how quickly this thing really could blow up. Silent assassin. I assume it’s so thick down there from the influx of 800,000 tourists to the city during Mardi Gras.
So basically NOLA people are to blame for why I am having to use paper towels due to the shortage of toilet paper. Might as well be sandpaper. Need to get to Walgreens to restock on Boudreaux’s if I have any chance or surviving this lockdown. I personally blame Kenner, America’s City

That's ok. Lafayette doctors offices are asking if you've been in NOLA in the past 14 days. Yes? Sorry, we'll call you to reschedule. Nothing wrong with it -- just wish they'd contact people the day before the appointment and reschedule if need be.

Baton Rouge people are giant pussies in times of crisis. When I was working the triage at the PMAC in the days after Katrina, there were people up there that were legitimately scared to go anywhere because "the people from New Orleans are robbing and raping people downtown by the Centroplex." They wouldn't leave AT ALL to get lunch.

In hindsight, celebrating Mardi Gras this year probably wasn’t the best idea.

right, because no one from Baton Rouge went to NOLA for Mardi Gras then went back to Baton Rouge for their one Spanish Town parade and didnt spread anything to anyone....

They broke into our office 3 times within the first week of being at the Centroplex. Had to hire someone 24/7 for the parking lot and night protection. The number of murders in EBR for 03, 04 and 05 average less than 60 (and that’s with more than one serial killer on the loose). 2006 it jumped to 85 plus and hasn’t looked back since.

ELECTIVE surgeries are cancelled. Elective means non emergent. And only visitors who have been to Orleans / Jefferson parish in the last 14 days are being turned away. Not patients.

Hospitals, retirement homes, etc are where the lockdowns need to be. They are the ones most threatened.
If they are cancelling elective surgeries I don't see the problem.

You do realize there are about 20k college kids in New Orleans that are currently being transitioned out of their dorms and going back home.

Riiiiiight. I made rounds and emergency calls to the Centroplex starting the Wednesday after Katrina. The place was crawling with armed patrols. I'm not saying there weren't issues but it was blown waaaaaaaaaaaay out of proportion.
