I’d like to see the government stop paying teenage girls to have kids they can’t support financially or emotionally, and take better care of our military veterans, ArmyHogs.

Exaggeration but ok. You do know some kids families are dirt arse poor and they can’t afford food, right? Some people actually need help.

Lots of places hiring. All the anchor babies need help too. We have created a system of abuse.

As you will also note, people making 80k don’t need free lunches.

I agree. People get upset about the food EBT stuff, but it still makes up a small percentage of overall tax dollar spending.

Majority of federal spending is transfer payments, it’s welfare. We spend more on that than education and the military.

We got it last year and thought that was it. My wife had hung on to the cards for whatever reason. Last month she got an email that they reloaded the cards. It felt like we won the damn lottery

In 2020, the total cost of the U.S. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) was around 79.22 billion U.S. dollars. This is a significant increase from the previous year, when the total cost of SNAP amounted to 60.4 billion U.S. dollars.

Quick Google search

Yet there are stats that say 1 in every 8 kids in the US doesn’t know where their next meal comes from

Until there is major SNAP / welfare reform it’s only going to get worse for these kids, majority do not benefit from these programs in any way

both kids go to public school. got the card for one, but not the other. just assumed that my daughters school filled out paperwork for all students, and my sons school did not.

while i absolutely do not want the card, i have used it. rationalized that if i do not use it, i am in no way "making a point". in the government's eyes, this money is spent.

guess i am getting some tax dollars back.

Got the same thing yesterday...$195

We're going to use the entire thing at Sams and donate everything to the food bank. Such a gigantic waste of money that I will do my best to find a way to turn it into good.

That was also one idea we had but it looks like the waiver for purchasing hot foods has expired. I was hoping to just offer to buy a pan of dressing, cooked turkey, etc to make it easy but doesnt look like I can.

Helping parents feed kids is the devil. We are lost.

Found the guy who doesn’t realize that every poor person gets loads of money and the more kids they have the more EBT they receive. This is in addition. This is not the free school lunch, it can be used at gas stations and grocery stores. State is mailing extra EBT directly to the kids. It’s either: inefficiency, vote buying, or incompetence. It has nothing to do with Covid or a hungry kid.

A no income restriction is one of the most wasteful things the State of Louisiana could have done in handing these benefits out for nothing other than to try and gain political favor with voters.

This isn't being done by the state of LA, so it isn't that.

Look - I hate welfare queens as much as anyone. I am rarely in support of social safety net programs. I don't support this P-EBT because I doubt it was severely needed by most.

That said - The money, time, and resources that would be required to closely monitor most of these programs would be astronomical and not doable. Plain and simple, you got the card because you send your children to a school that has a high enough percentage of poor kids (or you were in one of the areas deemed a disaster area due to Ida, and the school is on a provisional program for 4 years).

If getting the card offends you as the top 1% of the top 1%, don't send your children to a school with such a high % of poor kids (or, in Ida's deemed disaster areas) P-EBT cards were done at the federal level, and the quickest/easiest/cheapest way to get them out is to give them all free/reduced lunch status families. Yes, that includes high income families whose children are in schools that qualify due to the rest of the student population.

Your post in no way explains why a kid who already gets free breakfast and lunch at school, and whose mom already gets EBT money for his food, needs to have an additional EBT card mailed directly to his house.

The fact it’s mailed to every students house is a clown show.

Their reasoning was that poor families rely on school food to feed their children when the schools are shut down. Schools were still shutting down in our largest cities this year. Idiotic as that is.

Basically they were saying “since we aren’t funding school meals during Covid because none are open, let’s allocate those funds to give those families groceries”.

Not that I in any way agree with that, but you asked why and that’s their why.

This IS the complaint and should not be the justification.

Again...justifying waste doesnt excuse it.

It's absurd to literally just give money away to people who don't need it because only giving it to people who do is inefficient.

Spending the money doesn't stick it to the gov't. While I agree not doing anything with it doesnt do anything at all, spending it doesnt really either. It's already "spent" even if never redeemed.

It would be like if the federal government mailed you a gift card but you just threw it away. At least using it could generate money back to small or local businesses
