remember when that was the good mall

I remember some kid got the shite kicked out of him and put in a coma because a local wanted his hat.

Found it on the first try.

Eta: maybe I’m confusing the hat with my own run-in at Esplanade.

Yeah I think the whole hat thing started as a rumor, because around the same time people were supposedly killing each other for Raider's hats or some shite.

That's a pretty brain-dead ruling. If you want to send someone to prison for 10 years for putting a kid in a coma, find a better reason to do it than "tennis shoes are a deadly weapon."

Used to go to the Esplanade a lot with my parents growing up. That was the "nice" mall that we would go to over Southland when we wanted to do an outing.

Would always end the day with eating out at Olive Garden which was fine dining to us haha

I was good friends with the kid, he lived 2 blocks away. Also friends with the kid that was with him when it happened. I was at The Esplanade Mall with him a day or 2 before.

My understanding is it was "who you hang with?" (we weren't in any gangs nor knew anything about gang culture). Then he got put in a coma and wheelchair for life.

The bright, clean, new H&M looks so out of place in there.

When H&M was announced, I was shocked that Houma of all places was getting one even before some other cities in Louisiana.

If I remember correctly, H&M started construction before Sears decided to shut down.

They should have moved H&M to the Sears parcel, but Sears could have owned that parcel where they sat like in most locations.

I was eight when that happened and don't remember it. My esplanade heyday was 92-97.
Used to ride bikes then cars there. Challenges arcade, had friends at Sbarro, Chick fil a and Taco Bell so we always got hooked up in the food court.
We used to buy vhs movies for like $35 from Suncoast and cassettes and CDs from FYE.
Dillard's men's store has a good selection but they also had all the major brands there too.
The only things I can get on the mall are kids shoes, candles and crap from Spencers.

Lakeside won out because it was closer to the Causeway... Kenner’s gone downhill in the last two decades, but the 90s were the heyday of Esplanade. I used to look forward to going there over Lakeside and Clearview

Rumor has it- The current owner of the Esplanade owns multiple Properties around the country and uses Esplanade as a tax write off; he basically tells local leaders to F off when they approach him about redeveloping the mall.

Don't you mean Camelot music? FYE didn't take over Camelot until 1999.

From 1994 to around 1999 I basically lived at the mall, it was walking distance from my house. Hung out at the mall all day then went to the movie theater at night, constantly on a mission to find girls.

Sitting at Cafe du Monde until the mall security dude we called robo cop would tell us we had to buy something to sit there.. then it was off to Spencer's where it was inevitable that one of us was going to steal a cheap necklace or prank dog shite.. then last but not least, the bookstore that was upstairs next to Champs had the open playboys in the magazine section.

Damn those were the days!

Ruling is awesome. Hopefully Munez gets capped upon release. Because...

The owner is Mike Kohan. The same guy that owns Jasper Mall (TulaneLSU thread).

That would be a huge blow to Southland. I was just there before Christmas. The entire Sears wing is dead.

They make a pretty darn good burger imo, Southland has been 'dead' for years but Ground Pati seems good to go

They made a great burger when I was a kid. Next time I’m down there checking on mom, I’ll have to go eat.
Do they still let you eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor? I remember doing it as a kid and I’m pretty sure it was at GP.

Chilling court opinion.

My friends and I, as adolescents, were attacked by some thugs at Lakeside because they said they didn't like the hat I was wearing. This would have been around the same time as that court opinion. That's one of those childhood memories you never forget.

Speaking of Clearview, to me that is the deadest mall in the area. The food court has tumbleweed rolling down the thoroughfare. It's insane the owner is about to spend a fortune on that mall. It's a depressing place.
