H&M is closed and merchandise has been moved out.

Malls are real estate time bombs. You get about 30 years of use out of them.

Ruling is awesome. Hopefully Munez gets capped upon release. Because...

You like the end result. I do too, but that ruling is garbage legally.

What if Munoz had been barefoot, or used his fists to the same end? There's really no provision in the law for a long prison sentence?

That's crap, and the answer isn't to pick random things that aren't dangerous weapons and judicially declare them dangerous weapons. The law should be changed, and defendants charged prior to that change should be sentenced fairly under existing law- whether we like the result or not.

yeah what really needs to be taken into account for the new way of a businesses in the coming 20 years, especially trying to take advantage of all those abandoned malls and movie theaters, is that it has to be destination entertainment as opposed to just sales

I know for a fact that a group of prominent business men approached him about breathing some life into the Esplanade. They had new tenants lined up, and had a plan to revamp/refresh the mall itself. He told them to kick rocks.

You don't happen to remember that kid's name, do you?

Speaking of Clearview, to me that is the deadest mall in the area. The food court has tumbleweed rolling down the thoroughfare. It's insane the owner is about to spend a fortune on that mall. It's a depressing place.

right after Katrina, when the movie theater was new, it was hopping. I spent a lot at the GameTrader

It looks like some malls are repressing for no dine in restaurants for food delivery, shipping centers, and even laser tag. Houma isn't necessarily forward thinking when it comes to economics though. We will have thr mall and movie theater just sitting around for a long time

Do they still let you eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor? I remember doing it as a kid and I’m pretty sure it was at GP.

The one on David Drive in Metairie doesn't do peanuts any longer. But yes, you were able to throw them on the floor.

Even before the Esplanade Mall Video he did one for Clearview and Lakeside.

In the Clearview Mall story Sal tells about his local connections to the Nola area. He also visits a Kmart.

Clearview has more activity then Esplanade. There is no food court any longer. It also sits on one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in the South. The new project will have it being de-malled for the most part.

The retailers that gravitate towards malls are all dead or dying. No one is building enclosed malls today.

And I suspect that Covid is going to finish what Amazon and other e-commerce giants already started.

It has activity in the sense that the old "mall" on College at Corporate in BR has activity. The retailers that have direct access to the parking lot are open and surviving. Nothing inside of it is though. They've had to turn both into an outward-facing retail setup and de-emphasize the internal mall corridors.

Both the college/corporate former mall and Clearview would be better suited to modern retail if they were leveled and reformatted into something similar to what Town Center in Baton Rouge is like.

I agree. Just making the point that there is more commerce taking place at Clearview.

In the late 80's and through the 90's, I thought The Esplanade was the nicest mall in the city.
Def was, place was state of the art.
