I very rarely see people walking on Lee Dr. to warrant putting sidewalks on each side of the road
Perhaps because it's a heavy trafficked two lane road. It would be incredibly dangerous as is.

I mean, what's the need for a sidewalk anyway? It's not like there's a whole lot of reason to walk that stretch anyway.

A four lane road with the limited yard lspace would result in some me bad results… people would be flying down that road

If the "turn" lane is anything like the one they put on government st it will be useless and might cause more navigation issues.
If they can do 3 lanes, 2 bike paths and sidewalks then they can 4 lane it.
The bike paths in Baton Rouge are a fricking joke anyway. They are always full of dirt and debris from the cars because they are just shoulders and not actual bike paths. You need to do more than paint a line to make a bike path.
They should 4 lane it, screw the bike path, put a wide sidewalk that can handle bike and pedestrian traffic. You only need the sidewalk on one side of the street.

It needs turn lanes badly. 4 lanes + a center turn lane would require knocking down houses.
Neighborhood shot that down.

What are you talking about? I always feel awful for the students etc that are trying to walk to all the food options RIGHT there. It's too damn dangerous to walk that stretch right now. That area badly needs sidewalks.
The bike lanes on hyacinth have been a huge boost to connect the lakes through rouzan to pollard to Perkins park for bikers/runners.
I just hope they would paint the cross walks though as people forget to look for bikes etc. at the stop lights and add some bumpers to physically remind cars when they stray from the road into the bike lane (while staring at their phones).

(City) streets with a lot of residential should always have sidewalks, no questions asked. Also its clear the neighborhood doesn't want 4 lanes of speeding cars. Yes, there is traffic, but people who live in the neighborhood are probably used to it and deal with it, moving thru traffic faster is not their problem.

Making Lee 4 lanes between Perkins and Highland would be stupid. If you were headed to 10 from Highland/Nicholson you still have the cluster frick known as College drive and going the other way Nicholson/Brightside

I travel Lee Drive on occasion and in general I can maintain 30 mph and the only hiccup is at the light on Hyacinth.
I think a two lane road with a center lane from Perkins to Liberty High with four lanes from Liberty High to Highland Road.
Yes to sidewalks. No to bike paths except ftom Liberty High South across the Bayou and along the bayou to behind the school.
I think something like that would work well and be a big improvement.

Why do all this useless chaos and destruction? Can you imagine having to live on Lee Dr. ? Damn noise and traffic all the damn time.
My radical solution to improve the traffic flow on Lee Dr. is to permanently take the bridge out that crosses Bayou Duplantier and make that street a Dead End. That will solve the traffic congestion and it won't cost as much as that wastefull widening project.
Essen Ln . should be a dead end too.

if you don’t put sidewalks and bike lanes, a four lane road would not take up anymore of their yards than the three lane already planned
But, with 4 lanes, you're going to have much more faster moving traffic that will be very close (almost dangerously close) to homes. If you takes that space up with walkers and bicyclists, the safety is significantly better.

They spent $500k to change the name of that school.... twice...

Wait what??? Explain what you mean

You propose the buy out all the properties?
Exactly, we have the same issues in Atlanta. There are a shite ton of two lane roads that cut through older neighborhoods that are being used as major thruways all across the city.
They always remind me of the Southdowns portion of Lee. I just don't think there's an easy solution unfortunately.

don't think a 4 lane is possible unless they start seizing homes to demolish
If they could fit 5 lanes into Burbank, 4 lanes would be possible in the space allotted to 3 lanes + bike lanes + side walks.
