Our company just fired about 20 Russians

In our cloud services department at work we have err had about 20 Russians working for us. All of them have just been let go. Completely. Not a layoff or anything like that. Which sucks really because they are all good people. I fricking hate it for them.
We've been told:
The sanctions make it impossible to pay the employees.
More importantly, the decoupling from the banking system meant that we can't pay office bills. Supposedly, the Russian government requires foreign companies to maintain a physical space to do business there. Since we can't do that, looks like we're done with them at least for a while until this shite gets straightened out.
In a way I would prefer we give these jobs to Americans (forget the war) but it sucks for these guys. They are just good people and you hate that this shite is happening to them.

To confirm the context clues, it was more about them being Russian residents rather than of Russian descent?

Obviously he’s talking about jobs that were exported to russia because his company found ruskies who could do the job for 1/3 of what it would cost for an American. His company fired them because they can’t even send them their paychecks anymore.

I do feel sad for the average Joe citizen in Russia who doesn't like their government and just can't do anything about it and are having their lives all turned upside down because of their government. Same for a lot of Chinese citizens, I'd imagine a majority of them don't like their government, yet there is little they can do.
Basically, an extremely more amplified version of Americans who have to put up with politicians that they don't like, except they have a much worse outcome.

Exactly. If they replaced them with Americans that would be awesome. But they probably won't. They'll probably replace them with Romanians or Poles.

Hah, nah they'll have to find Eastern Euros to do what these guys did and pay them close to the same.
Most Indians can't do this job.
