Ouachita authorities identify suspect on the run who is accused of shooting at deputy

UACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office is actively looking for a suspect after he reportedly fired shots at a sheriff's deputy.
According to Sheriff Jay Russell, a deputy tried to pull the suspect over on Cypress Street at about 12:19 p.m. He says the suspect sped off and the deputy pursued the suspect where he took a left on Vancil and a right into the Westlakes Subdivision. This is when, Sheriff Russell says, the suspect began shooting at the deputy through the rear windshield. Other law enforcement units arrived on the scene and the suspect abandoned his vehicle.
They have identified the suspect as 17-year-old Brandon Kaleb McClain, an escapee from the Green Oaks Juvenile Detention Center. They say McClain escaped from Green Oaks on Saturday. He is described as being 5'11" tall, 140 pounds, and wearing all black clothing with a blue bandana.
Law enforcement is stationed at the intersection of Vancil Road and Kendallwood Road, just outside West Monroe. The search is centered around that area. The neighborhood is blocked off for the time being. OPSO has advised people in the area to stay indoors.
Authorities have K-9 units on the ground and may be calling for air support. They are continuing to search wooded areas in the vicinity for the suspect. Officials say they are also checking homes and other buildings to make sure everyone is safe. The suspect's vehicle has been recovered.
Sheriff Russell says the suspect will be charged with one count of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
