I use a Jagger safety razor. Honestly most of them are probably the same.

My Braun has lasted me 10+ years with a few blade replacements. It's just now starting to lose some power. I think the rechargeable battery is dying out.
Solid electronic. If I bought one tomorrow, it would probably die in 4 years as most electronics these days are crap.

Braun 9000 series is the best by all that review them, but it’s expensive. If you want an incredible experience, do the following:
1. Lectric Shave(let dry for 30-60 seconds)
2. Lather a quality shave cream you like(Aveeno sensitive skin for me)
3. Safety blade(I use in Merkur)
4. Rinse face with hot water
5. Dry face
6. Tend Skin
7. Nivea Post Shave Balm
Entire process takes about 7-10 minutes and it’s an awesome experience.

No matter how careful I am I always end up with bumps on my neck and it’s annoying
With a safety razor?

This is a good tip.
You don't need anything fancy. Just some baby oil. (mineral oil.)
Ive never had to use that. I use a safety razor with a new blade every day. I use Creamo shaving cream. Pennies a day and it is as close a shave as you can get.

The Braun foil type shavers get closer, but seem to irritate more than the norelco three head style shavers. If you are the blonde and thin hair/fair skin type without dense facial hair, either would be fine. I doubt any would work well if you have the ability to grow a good dense beard.

I've used Norelco, Panasonic, and Braun - prefer the Norelco but each has been serviceable given close shaves.
The key to using electric is to make the change without switching back to scraper blades. At first you won't get a close shave but your face will "adjust" to the different razor and it'll get better.
The other is use Williams 'Lectric shave to pretreat your face before shaving. Night/Day difference and wouldn't shave without it. I didn't believe it before trying it but the stuff is a game changer for electric razors.

What does pre-shave oil do? What's a good brand?

I just bought this one for Christmas. Very happy with it so far. Works great if your shaving your head or face several times a week.

I use a Phillips Norelco that my secretary gave to me about 15 years ago. Original blades. I can get damn near as close as a razor. Granted I'm old and my beard isn't as heavy but I find it very convenient and way more than good enough.
I know. CSB.

I always wonder how people can get a clean-shaven look using an electric razor. Guessing you'd have to have pretty thin hairs.

I have such shitty skin so I can't ever use electric razors. Just use regular multi blade razors and it does fine.

I’ve used a safety razor for years, but it’s time consuming. I just switched to using an electric shaver after years of detesting them, for efficiency’s sake. Still not a huge fan of the shave I get from it.
What I’ve found though, is rubbing your face down with a block of alum prior to applying an electric shaver does get you a closer shave. Not as close as a safety blade, but close enough to get you through the day.

Norelco one blade plus and haven't spent a dime on blades in years. Feels like you've shaved, can use wet or dry, trim and all.

Just got the Philips One Blade face. Only got to use it once and it gets a very close shave for clippers. Not sure if that's what you are looking for though.
