Chris, I shouldn't have to explain to you that constructive criticism doesn't = being a dick.

It don't bother me. I know what you are saying. There is a difference between the masses and photographers. Most of the masses like over saturation. I like mostly black and white, so saturation never comes into play.

The third one here is the best over all because of toned down colors and sharpness.

Over all, these photos are not that great. They are soft.

I had never shot something like this and realized how difficult it was. I did rent a 100-400 5.6, but the focus on it was so slow and I had no practice with it, I ended up just using my 70-200. That 100-400 is basically a wildlife lens, not a sports lens. I needed a 400 2.8 sports lens.

Here's my iPhone pictures. Didn't get many pics of the Angels because I video'd most of their performance.

What shutter speed did you use to get those?

I think I shot them too slow at 1/1250. It should have been upwards of 1/2000+, but because of the overcast, I had to slow it down, causing them not to be as sharp as I wanted. I even had to use my exposure compensation by two stops because the jets were still underexposed. It was nearly impossible to get the correct exposure and lock on a focal point in the few seconds I had to shoot each pass.

I have a Canon 5D mkiii and used a Tamron 70-200 2.8 on most of these.

Like I said in the OP, it's not the equipment because the last photo was taken by my ten year old with a cheap Canon T1i and a 28-80 kit lens. It was pure luck that she grabbed this because she has no concept of composure, framing, etc. She took 200+ images and had two good ones.

Were you shooting wide open? I know those lenses get sharper as they get stopped down a little bit.

Really wanted to get out there with my 7D Mark II, Canon 70-200 f/2.8 and the 1.4x teleconverter, but I'm working a turnaround right now.

What was your aperture? I think your shutter was probably faster than it needed to be.
