you're building a kids play area next to a 40' cliff? and the rubber mulch is supposed to do what exactly?

Technically at the base of it and the mulch is to cushion the fall.

What's the point of having a 40ft cliff in your backyard if you can't use it?

mother is gorgeous.. She used to have her own food truck and can be seen often on TV on bumpers and repeats of Eat Street. If you hung out on the fdb youd have seen her.

I'll get a pic of the cliff today and post it tonight when I'm home.

Playgrounds around us just use wood mulch or pebbles.

Don't do the rubber thing.

If you want to spend a lot of time and money…you could dig it out a good 12”, put 6” of rubber mulch then 6” of some sort of organic mulch (like wood/dirt mix that’s still soft). That way it’s a soft landing for falls and they don’t eat rubber cancer pellets.

No. Grass won't grow in this area. It's at the foot of a 40ft cliff in shade 24/7 and i plan to attach a rope for them to get to the top from the treehouse (well the wooden 2 story swingset house) and I need something soft for the inevitable falls.

When I was younger we got in & out the treehouse via a trampoline.

We'd canonball out of it and launch the other kids into orbit and if you were the one flying you'd pray to land back on the trampoline cause there was no mulch, just a hard arse patch of dirt.

Phil spent some time with casts on both arms when he missed

Wooden mulch & bare feet don't go well together. I'm looking to put some rubber mulch down too. My kid has one of those half dome monkey bar things. He just turned 4 so he's not quite the most graceful thing. He's busted his arse on it a couple times & it's only a matter of time before he breaks an arm or some shite

Yes, maintenance is just part of it. If done right, it will last years between needing a refill. There is certified playground mulch. Rubber, organic and engineered.

This is what I bought, I needed 3000lbs to get a 4 in base. Wanted to use railroad ties for the border but couldn't find any in time so I used stacked landscape timbers with 3ft rebar as the anchor and pole barns to tie the timbers together.

The rubber playground mulch is great but stupid expensive. will cost around $1,000 to do a decent sized swing set / play gym. I bought some of the one at lowes in the $7/ 0.8 cubic feet

Just built a playground for my brother. He used railroad ties as the border and filled it in with playground mulch. He lives in the sticks so it kind of goes with the surroundings.

i am leery of railroad ties because i've heard horror stories about termites from people who picked the 'less heavy' ones to bring home.

FYI, ESPN did a big story about this stuff recently. Sounds like this shite is one of those things we are going to find out down the road is pretty bad.
