OT parents... What type of rubber mulch did you buy for your kids playground?

I've read a few liberal blogs hand wringing over rubber mulch which I'm going to mostly ignore but would like to know your experiences.

Anything better than rubber mulch right now to put under a swing set?

Also what type of border do you use? Pressure treated 4x4s? Where is the best place to purchase those?

Grass? Don't pussify your kids.

Can't do grass? Rubber mulch will probably cause cancer or something.

After reading the title, this didn't surprise me.

Well if you would have used "rubbers" earlier, this conundrum wouldn't exist.

The rubber mulch type is not as important as making sure you properly dress your special snowflake for outside play...

No. Grass won't grow in this area. It's at the foot of a 40ft cliff in shade 24/7 and i plan to attach a rope for them to get to the top from the treehouse (well the wooden 2 story swingset house) and I need something soft for the inevitable falls.

I use this.
Gotta toughen up the little crumbsnatchers in this Safe Space world somehow.

Why is the OP even letting his child go outside? Is he not aware of all the bad things that could happen? My child loves his bubble and enjoys being rolled around from room to room in the safety of the indoors.

rubber mulch shouldn't be an issue unless you are worried about your kid eating it

it is a petroleum based product, so yeah, it is going to have carcinogens in it, thats just a fact

but its not going to be adsorbed through their skin nor will the VOCs be at a level in which it harms them from breathing it

Since you posted that information after he had made his comment, then yeah, I'm guessing he probably missed it.

Wait, you're building a kids play area next to a 40' cliff? and the rubber mulch is supposed to do what exactly?

You're correct and I feel bad about it. I will say 10 Hail Barrys as penance.
