They're not in middle school. They're in high school.

In about three weeks, she'll be 17. I'm still not going to post her picture on here, though. No mom would do something so insane.

Tell your kids that they have to work this out on their own. By doing so you force them to eventually work it out. In other words, remove the safety net.

Sort of common among kids who are close in age. Familiarity breeds aense of comfort in exploring
World of dating. They will laugh about it one day. Although my friends BF is now her SIL. Thats a hole other can of worms

Since you're from Louisiana then I'd say just be grateful that your son's girlfriend is your daughter's friend and not your daughter. Count your blessings and move on, coonass.

A mom comes to the OT for advice on 17 yr olds? This is amazing.

If daughter thinks it’s bad now tell her wait till there is a newborn baby screaming at 2 am in the morning when she has a major test coming up in the morning.

They are teenagers, let them work it out on their own.

I agree with letting it run its course. My son just went through a break up with his first love. It was tough, but I saw it coming a mile away. Sweet girl, but her family was just complete garbage. Part of me was a little scared he'd end up marrying this girl, but he's 17, and I told myself to calm the F down. I was biting my tongue so hard the last few months. But I knew it would eventually come to an end, and if I tried to intervene, I'd be the bad guy. It was tough watching him struggle with it, but it's a relief now that it's done. Very few relationships work out at this age. Just ride it out.

ETA: I think the biggest issues in your situation is that it could frick up your daughter's friendship permanently. Or make it super awkward for your son when they break up and the girl is still hanging around.

Tell your son at every opportunity how much you like his sister's friend and how you wholeheartedly approve of their dating. Make tons of positive suggestions like "you two should check out that new movie this weekend."

They'll split in no time.

Your son is about to learn a lesson. That lesson is "don't shite where you eat". He has to live with his sister. Not worth the bs of dating her best friend. Rookie move.
