From then on me and my dad had an agreement. He sat me down and said if they (my parents) were going to invest in serious travel ball and lessons that they expected to give 100%.
That's pretty much our agreement.
As long as he is putting in the work, I told him we would travel and let him compete.
He does karate so we don't have to worry about teams. We enjoy traveling and looking for good competition.

Keep a look out for 911Moto. Apparently his kid is the next Jacki chan and has a 36 on the ACT.

Daughter was a child model, actress, and singer, and also has an IQ estimated in the top 1/10,000th of the population. Could read before pre-school. Has never made any grade but "A". At age 10 she sang on CBS network television and was invited to sing with the opera. She more or less decided at 11-12 that she preferred academics over the spotlight. Now in college, has yet to have to take a final exam.
Her intelligence was natural from birth, but she has been self-motivated to excel. She did take voice, piano, and acting lessons and worked at it.

Natural talent, plus lots of really hard work. There are very, very few people who can succeed at an extremely high level even with natural talent unless they work super hard at something. Someone who lacks natural ability and works hard enough to be truly great at something can happen, but it's rare in my experience.

Not at LSU that I know of. If they do then the engineering college is giving me the shaft.

OT parents of successful kids
I don't have or want kids. But let me tell you, my sister's kids are national level good in their fields. Especially her oldest (25 yrs old) - this kid left a 6 figure salary job in a small Louisiana town to pursue his own Tech startup company. He travels from the West coast to the East coast developing relationships and putting together deals with with big name Fortune 50 tech companies. My guess is within 5 years, he and his team will be set for life.

My kid successfully beat up an Honor Student.
Does this count?
911Moto's kid drives a Saleen Stang and is the Universe's Karate (Japanese "empty hand) Champion, got a full ride to ____________ (fill in the blank) AND lives in Slidell.

My wife's niece fits this description as well. The pitfall you have to watch out far is that they are used to excelling in academics and have never been challenged. Eventually they will encounter a class that is going to require a enormous amount of work regardless of their intellect. It happened to the niece as a junior with some premed courses, she almost fell apart over making her first C. She got back on track and is on a solid course for med school.

Is there a right/wrong here?
any activity takes about 5,000 hours practice under a good coach or mentor to achieve a level O-T would call highly successful.
there are two pairs of father son Nobel prize winners. both sons won in the same field of study as the fathers.
NBA is full of sons of NBA guys. NFL, colleges have them too. its no coincidence, and its more than genes.

I figured this thread was just bait to get him to look like an arse. It's made for him.

i have two sons.
one is really damn good at eating.
the other is pretty good at everything he tries. but he doesn't ever focus on just one thing, so never truly excels at anything in particular.

My kids are fairly normal when it comes to most things but I had a brother who was a really good athlete. It was evident from an early age. He excelled in three sports, played two in college

Might as will learn to like it, the U.S will eventually follow the rest of the world with soccer its main sport. The concussion liability issue is going to kill football starting at the high school level.
