It's not a new thing. I didn't have to take some of my finals, and that was back in the dark ages, and at LSU. She is at school elsewhere though.

My 8 year old is writing basic applications in C#. She's good at math so it might be a good fit. She loves it too. Half of the challenge is finding what your kid enjoys enough to stick with it.

My kid is really good at travel ball. His coach said if he pays for another two or three seasons he will definitely start as a senior and his pitching coach says he has a lot of potential, just sign two or three more years of lessons and he will likely play in the league.

But they worked like everyone else. It takes brains to be a quarterback; and more brains to realize future injuries and chances of going to the NFL. So nuke engineers, electricians and doctors they became.
The real secret to raising kids is to raise them to respect their elders and always be kind.

My oldest is a state champion swimmer. She has swam at Junior Nationals but honestly she was at the bottom of that group so she isn't going to go high D1.
She wants to go to medical school so she is looking at some good academic schools like Tulane and TCU that aren't at the top of the swim rankings but she has a really good chance at making their teams. Vanderbilt is a possibility as well but it doesn't look like they will need breaststrokers in her class.
The key to her success has been simple. Work hard. Don't miss those 5 am practices and just get after it. She doesn't complain even though she doesn't have a lot of time for a social life.
She started when she was 6. She was average until the 12 year old fork and she started putting up AA times. Got her first AAA at 14 and followed up with a Junior nationals cut at 15.

Why yes, there are some pics. I would estimate that she has been photographed somewhere approaching 10,000 times, including magazine and catalog covers. That is her face on the van in my avatar pic.
