Younger kids, 6-10.

How do you deal with cursing? I understand that kids are going to eventually curse. My little boy who will be 7 in November, 100 % positively, curses when parents or adults are not around. I know this because my 9 year old daughter is a snitch (My daughter threw an empty Jello cup at him the other day and he responded with “frick you!”. She let me know about it)

How do you guys handle both situations? The boy doesn’t curse around adults. He is t disrespectful to adults and more than likely talks a ton of shite in front of other kids. I don’t think he curses at school because he goes to a school where there are other small children for sure that will rat him out. He got in trouble for it once last year. None since then.

Also, how do you handle the 9 year old snitching her brother out CONSTANTLY. It’s a double edged sword with that predicament because I’d like to know what he’s up to, at the same time, there could be some indirect trust issues with siblings and friends later down the road.

So what does the OT say? (Other than “snitches get stitches?”)

let him smack her for snitching then you smack him for cursing and hitting his sister.

Problem solved.

My four year old got mad at me leaving my paperwork on the table one time. He came in, pushed it onto the floor, and said “this shite pisses me off!”.

My wife and I stared at each other and busted out laughing.

1st of all, this is all learned behavior.

He's learned it at home or from folks close to him.

And I am sure, in his mind, he has gotten away with it and it's acceptable behavior.

That's the 1st part you have to take a look at.

Mine are 5(boy) and 8(girl).

We're having the same exact problems. Must be the age/sex dynamic of the children. I just assumed they would grow out of it.

If he doesn't do it around you, there isn't much to correct.

As someone who was a fricking kid once, they'll curse as much as they damn well please when around other little shithead pissants.

Tell him the teacher called and tell him to go outside and pick out a switch and if its not good enough, you get to pick. Pop him a few times and let him know that if he does it again, it will be worse. Then wait 2 weeks and say a parent called and said their kid told them and repeat the same process to hopefully have him scared shiteless to say any more curse words

I still tell my sister to go frick herself and we’re in our 30’s.

Well all the daughter needs to know is that "snitches get stitches."

Don't really know what to tell you about your 7 year old. Seems a tad young to be dropping F bombs, but I'm pretty sure my friends and I were cursing up a storm when out of earshot of adults (and snitches) by about 10 years old.

I'm pretty annoyed when my two boys snitch on each other. Not sure what the correct course of action is with that.
No experience with cussing.....yet
