That's who I use (obv different location than you.) They've been pretty up front about costs with me, but unless you're trying to change cardiologists, what are you going to do with them?

It seems odd given that every other time I've done imaging, they give me a CD for free, but they can charge whatever they want, whenever they want if they choose.

I'm no lawyer but I'll chime in. The reason I'll speak up is because more than once I've been told by Drs. the images are mine. Me or insurance paid for them.

He can only charge a “reasonable fee” for delivering the results to you, assuming you jsut want access to the results and not his interpretation and consultation

A reasonable fee would be like $10

ETA: it appears Texas law is $6.50 for electronic access

I've run medical offices for 15 years in TX. This is the most accurate answer posted.

My doctors office tried to charge me another copay to get my results from test during my physical. I called the insurance company and 30 minutes later my doctors office said I didn't have to pay

pay for IT personnel to manage their PACS to make sure to never lose the studies, pay for any infrastructure to house said images, pay for the software that will placed on the disc so people can actually look at said images.

All of these are covered when you pay for the test itself.

Having the results put on a disk or made available via portal or other web cost virtually nothing.

You got ripped off unless the cost of the tests was cheap by comparison with other cardiology places. I use and recommend Houston Methodist.

I had a brain MRI this a.m. and I've already read my report on my patient portal.

I try to use doctors who have a patient portal with reports.

Your cardiologist probably has no idea this is being charged

At least in the Katy location of his cardiologist, it's all done on site.

I know the primary care doc I use was able to see info that Modern Heart and Vascular posted.

I've never seen so many old latinos watching youtube on their phones at full volume in one place as I have at this cardiologist.

I said I never had charged a single person for their records. Not once in my 23 years of practice.I never said I agreed with the charges. Can you read?
I just help by answering the question.
Go vent your insecurities and instabilities to a therapist you little fig.

What TF makes you think some lawyer would have any idea about this? Do you think they’re omnipotent? Or are you planning on suing over $100?

I always ask for a copy of test results right there when they discuss it with me. If I get an MRI or CT scan done I ask for a copy of the imaging and results upfront, they will give you a copy on a disc. The interpretation may be held up by the providers rule of not releasing results until they see you but I get a copy of radiology report at that visit.

I had an eye doctor try to charge me a fee for a copy of my prescription because I didnt want to buy his overpriced glasses.

Started going elsewhere.

This is most likely OP being healthcare illiterate and not knowing how to access his EMR to view results.

You could probably ask your primary care doctor to request it. That’s what I did to get my MRI when the ortho office gave me the run around. She got it and uploaded it to MyChart.

I had the CRAPPY Neurology Center of BR charge me $100 to fill out the FMLA paperwork I needed for to help care for my father. The medical industry is turning into the airline industry. Just figuring out ways to charge you for everything they can

The government and private insurers keep cutting reimbursements and clinics have to recoup costs/time the best they can. Not that I don’t sympathize here, but do you ask your lawyer to do paperwork for free? Do you expect your plumber or mechanic to work for free too?
