I love Shelties, They are super smart and fun.
Mine is super smart and a little trickster.
I wouldn't recommend them for people that don't have time for their dogs though. Need exercise or can be destructive. Coat is a pain in the arse to maintain.
However if you want an easy to train dog with a lot of energy, you can't go wrong with them.

i have always thought it is cruel to keep a husky in Louisiana.
Not at all, the double coat keeps cool in the heat. Just like most dogs in hot summers, you need to give them a shady place to go and lots of water.

I have a Brittany as well, mine is 15 months old. Pretty much everything you said is spot on with mine. Weights are about the same too. She has calmed down a lot, but when it comes to being outside and chasing lizards, squirrels, rabbits, birds, etc, she is a machine. Doesn't matter how exhausted she is, she is always down to hunt. Instincts are incredible to watch.

Sounds exactly like ours. She'll stalk anything that moves, but birds are definitely her favorite. I'm just glad the geese went back north, she'd go nuts anytime she heard them flying over. Brittany's are definitely wired to point or flush birds.

German Shepherd
First dog was german shepherd mixed with lab, second purebread but a young rescue. Smartest dogs around. Great with kids (oldest 7, youngest 3) and good watch dog.
Similar experience to the Belgium dog owner.

Agreed. Non summer months are good, but when it warms up, watch out.

Here's another post telling you to get a pound dog.
I have pure breeds and mutts, and unequivocally the mutts are calmer than the pures.

Golden retriever is the dog of dogs.
Don't listen to all these idiots saying labs. Too hyper, stubborn, and dumb.
A golden is the way to go.
This x100... We are on Golden #2. Careful though. 10 plus years with one seems way to short and your heart will be broken when it is over. They seem to have an understanding soul like no other. Ours knows how to reach each family member.

We have a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, sweetest and friendliest dog I have ever seen. Has never met a person or another dog she didn't like. Also non-shedding.
