I've never had a fight in my life. I never had a need to fight. If you give most people respect you'll receive the same in return. Whenever I encountered a jackass I didn't entertain him. I walked away. Those are the lessons I'm teaching my kids, but I do tell them if someone tries to hurt them then you defend yourself by whatever means is necessary.

Where's the fun in that?

I bought some gloves and mitts. Teach them the basics. Hooks, jabs, straights, and uppercuts. They need to know how they defend themselves. It's a crazy world out there.

Start punching them at a young age to desensitize them

I do, but I don't know how much he's picking up. He's not quite 2 yet. Not much power behind his punches and he certainly can't take a punch without crying.

I never viewed fighting as fun. Where's the fun in bashing someone's head or busting your fist open b/c you missed and hit a damn tree or something. I just focused on other things I guess. While you were fighting I'm in the corner talking to your girl and consoling her.

My dad taught me to shoot and gave me a nice CC pistol when I was 12. Worn it every day since. Nobody messed with me in school.

I was fortunate enough to get into wrestling by age 11. It's amazing how poorly most people have an understanding of how body position, leverage, and momentum work. No one wanted to fight the wrestlers.

I wished my parents taught us how to fight, but I also grew up in a house with 4 brothers so we got quite a bit of practice in

Not necessarily to fight, but basically just toughening him up by wrestling rough and inflicting a little pain now and then, so that he gets accustomed to it. He also plays football, basketball, baseball, and soccer, plus he's about to start wrestling. He gets knocked around and banged up a good bit. He's now 7 and he rarely cries, unless something REALLY hurts -- not because he's been told that crying us for sissies or anything like that, but because he's used to feeling minor pains. I've taught him how to punch, and he has a punching bag outside. He's a little undersized, but we've already experienced a few problems with kids not wanting to play with him anymore because he's too rough and hurts them.
