That costs less than $150, well made, and isn’t too noisy.
Any recs?

Baratza, Oxo, Capresso will be most of the answers
Baratza seems like it's usually the pick, even though it looks like a cheap Chinese knockoff (Capressos are ugly and cheap looking too).

We have the OXO. I like it because we’ve been able to adjust the grind to hone in a few different brews based on what we’re making, so I’ve found it to be more versatile than other options. I’m sure others can do this as well but for sub $100, it was an easy choice.
It’s not the quietest thing (per wife) but I think for the 10-15 seconds it’s on it’s fine and it’s also very easy to keep clean which is another key point.

They are all loud and they all make some mess. We have the encore, I don't clean it often but it takes more than 5 minutes to clean and dry all parts. Not bad really. Had to replace the rubber gasket once, might need to again soon. It's pretty foolproof to use. I think it's impossible to clean all up in there, but I'm sure it's fine.

You using it for espresso or just drip coffee?

Cuisinart +/- $80.00

I've had a Caspresso conical burr grinder for almost 10 yrs now, still going strong.

If you want a quiet well made grind go for a hand crank

Ideally both.

Honest question, does it taste that much better to grind your own? Never done it, but am interested.

Then the Baratza Encore is your answer. If you jump between grinding for espresso and drip constantly it'll be annoying, but the Encore is probably the cheapest grinder you can get that's capable of an espresso grind and won't drive you insane.

Yes grinding fresh beans before you brew does make a big difference

Dear god, yes.
We can all geek out over different brew methods, etc, but I don’t care if you buy the cheapest hack blade grinder, buying freshly roasted coffee and grinding it just before brewing makes an immediate, marked difference. Combine that with not keeping your coffee pot on a hot plate, and you’re probably at 85% of what we coffee geeks spend a lot more time and money to achieve.

I may purchase one then, I drink a lot of coffee and am spending quite a bit on my bags of caribou (medium roast for me) already. Never could do Keurig.
