Going do this ride Friday. Starting in Covington and riding to Mandeville trailhead. Hows the path? any traffic issues? Shady or open field? Prevailing winds? Any restaurants to try?

Just watch where it crosses hwy 59.

They are putting in a tunnel, should be starting soon.

Its a nice ride, very shady.

It's a leisure ride and not anything your can do speed work on because of all of the stop signs. If you just want to cruise and stop and eat and drink, it's a fun ride.

I'm no Lance Armstrong, but I think it is a nice ride. Depending on your ability, round trip back to Covington is what I would suggest. Covington has a ton of dining spots near the tailhead:

Matina Bella (breakfast)
Coffee Rani
Busters Place
Vasquez (Cuban)

Plus some nicer places:
Lola
Ox lot 9
Del Porto

Have a good ride.

It was a railroad, so it goes straight.

Baw, you gonna miss the MILFs at the Saturday farmers markets at the Mandeville and Covington trailheads.

It is straight and flat, woods on each side most of the way so a good bit of shade.

It’s a nice ride. I ran a couple weeks ago, you don’t go long stretches without passing someone but still a completely manageable amount of traffic

Please don’t go into any of these places after a 25 mile bike ride

I’m no helioseismologist. I’ve never rode the East-west portion from Mandeville to Camp Salmen. I’m curious if the summer sun hits you all day. Anyone know?

Unless you ride on Sept 21st then the sun won't be on a direct E-W path

That's pretty cool trail. I'm jealous. Central Alabama needs one of those.

Non bicycle rider request: don’t be an a-hole and drive in the road or weave back and forth on the side of the road.

Shady, really nice path and views but a ton of crossings. Look out for traffic at the 59, sharp and lonesome crossings. I recommend starting near the Mandeville trail head and heading to Slidell which will keep you away form many crossings and traffic.
