The camp needs to notify the other parents, apologize profusely ("this sort of thing will never be tolerated" etc) and state that they have fired the offending counselor. The only thing worse than the camp telling the other parents is the parents finding out from other means and that the camp was hiding it from them.

Other than pushing the camp to own up to the other families, I think you've done the appropriate thing.

Imagine if it were a case of molestation. Think it's a good idea to let the counselor stay in that position until the investigation is complete? Hell, the take cops off the job whenever they are involved in a shooting!

Whoa, man! Cool your jets. That's a whole different scenario than a stupid prank by some 7-9yo boys. The drama queen continues. I got an idea, let's all just put our personal problems on the OT, just like the other idiots that we always pick on. Then let's tell ourselves, I would never put that stuff on Tigerdroppings.

They do, but they dont immediately fire them without documentation. Take a breath and think about what you just said. I get that you're upset about the incident, and rightly so, but you need to focus the blame on the incident, not the process afterwards. The company has to do their due diligence, and that takes a little bit of time to document.

Okay...so they had proof that piss balloons were used. But that's not proof that the counselor had knowledge or approved of it. They can't just fire someone and send them packing in the middle of the night based on hysterical accusations. They had to figure out exactly what happened and find proof that the counselor was at fault.

Listen, nobody is defending the counselor. We're just defending how the camp responded, which sounds very reasonable and decisive. Except for not notifying the parents of the kids who were affected, which I can understand why you'd be very upset about.

I love the blasé attitude displayed in this thread by some. It's clear who is a parent and who isn't.

BobABooey, why are you in here? This is a thread with regards to a parental situation. You are clearly not an actively involved parent.

Revisit this in a few years when you've unfortunately spawned and see how "silly" you react when it's your kid.

Seeing as it was an adult that let this prank go to far.

Put them on the hook for her medical bill and look to getting that fricker with charges pressed. Boys being ages 8-9 and encouraged to fill water balloons with pee is complete creep territory and the camp better be notifying those parents as well.

So much worse went on at camp back in the day.
But yeah throwing chemicals in balloons is shitty.
We would bury eggs on day one and toss them on day 14 at the 4h camp kids.

Ask for your money back. Express you displeasure with the camp administration with a formal letter. Don't go back.

I want to go back to the urine detail. If this truly was a collection of piss from a bunch of 8 year old kids, the counselor could/should face some sort of criminal consequences.

Condoning the mop bucket stuff is grounds for termination, no doubt, but the urine is another story altogether. How involved was this counselor with the prank? Was it his idea, did he condone it, or was he simply not paying enough attention?

No, they don't immediately fire them, but they do take them off the street until the investigation is complete. This counselor was allowed to continue to supervise children AFTER he encouraged and promoted them use piss balloons!

If you have subordinates, and one is accused of something possibly illegal, you better damn well protect yourself and place them in a position where the alleged action can't be allowed to continue. Because if it does, the hammer falls down on you!

Yeah this is the part that throws me too. If the counselor was involved in this part in any way, he needs to be reported to appropriate authorities.

The camp director told me that the counselor encouraged and condoned it. He may have even help fill the balloons. I don't know if he threw any, or not, but the director did say that it all started as some kind of beef between two male counselors. The actions then migrated over to where to girls were.

It’s even easier to spot the new parents or the parents of a single child. I recognize responses that are typical of parents who carry guilt from warehousing their kids away at full time day cares because the kids are not convenient.

People are being punished and held accountable but why miss an opportunity to whip up the Facebook crowd?

I'm not understanding this mentality. Kids make stupid decisions, but any one over an age that is old enough to be left in charge is old enough to know this isn't right.

Good job, gumshoe. I have 3 adult children. They have children of their own.

My point is that you're so hell-bent on trying to "prove" that individuals are over-reacting when it comes to their kid.

You're on a different level of obtuse if you can't comprehend that your outlook and your perception of situations changes when you're in the driver seat of your own children.

Sure, you shrug your shoulders and move on when it's your imaginary kids involved. It's completely different once you have them.

What's even funnier is that you have relentless and unwavering determination to prove some shite about how some dad you don't know is overreacting about his daughter in order to bring home some electronic trophy. Yet, what you fail to realize is that very attitude you're currently displaying....that pertinacious and persistent attitude won't go away when you unfortunately become a dad...it'll remain and get transferred into other situations pertaining to your kid.

You don't see it now. But it'll happen and you'll turn into the exact same guy you're arguing against. You'll take that determination and be the guy that starts threads about rice in bottles at night or some other baby crap.

It all comes full circle. But no, you're correct, right now. : rollseyes:

You just know so much better than all of us non-parents.

That's all I'm saying. Yes, I have kids. Yes I agree this was a shitty prank, and it sucks for the OP's daughter and for him. As a former camper and counselor back in the day, pranks are fun, and learning what are good pranks and bad pranks are part of growing up. Punishment fits the crime. The counselor got run off pretty immediately, camp is reimbursing the OP, short of the a-hole counselor physically demonstrating to the kids how to fill the balloons himself, I'm not sure what the crime is or anything more the camp can do. It's in the OP's hands, and he's got to decide if he wants to ruin some dumb kid's future over a stupid prank in anger, or move on and help his own kid move on. No, he decides to bring it on this forum, the worst idea ever, and go on a Facebook mom diatribe about retribution and how this is equal to an officer involved shooting, and someone needs to go to jail. Good luck if that's the route you want to go. I'm sure mop water balloons are grounds for assault, since you're kid didn't get hit with piss bomb. Be glad she didn't come home with mono, lice, or a hickey. I'm out of this stupid thread.

Bleach has a short residence time where it is effective...plus it is dilute. I'd say it's fine.
