But, I think an 18 y.o. deserves at least probation etc (cost time and money) as punishment.

Eh, maybe. Nothing too serious or permanent if he’s that young. Community service hours or something if he is an otherwise good kid.

It’s a dumb mistake, not criminal. That is, unless he’s much older.

The counselor was fired on the morning after the incident. My daughter's counselor was a college student, so I would assume the male counselors are above 18, especially considering they are over 7-9 year olds.

I am not necessarily looking to file a lawsuit, but the non-notification of the parents and the non-immediate removal of the counselor has me scratching my head. BTW, the administration knew what had happened almost immediately after the incident. The female counselors were livid and went straight to the administration as soon as it happened.

No, my daughter won't be going back.

Wow, how stupid can you be? Was he trying to get fired?

How the hell do you think 10-year-old girls are going to react when they get drenched with piss?

Sounds like that jumped on it promptly, took care of the situation within 12 hours or so. College student could still be 18-19, therefore still a "kid", a dick, but a kid.

I mean, that's pretty immediate. They probably just needed some time to figure out a solution to replace his responsibilities.

The counselor that approved the balloons with urine and mop water is an adult. The kids that threw them are 7-9 years old. I don't blame the kids, but the counselor probably got off easy with just being fired.

I find it incredibly difficult to believe an adult would let 7-9 year olds fill a balloon with piss.

I believe the story, but this detail seems so over the top it's possibly made up.

Your kid went to a camp with a bunch of little germ-spreading Petri dishes and you’re blaming her sore throat on water from a mop bucket? Good luck proving that. Sounds like people were punished and you’re getting money back. Teach your kid a valuable lesson about moving on by letting this go.

What does your husband think?

Definitely.

The parents need to have a conversation with their boys on right and wrong, even though it was not their fault.

The boys should be banned from the camp.

bullshite. 12 year olds know better, and should be held accountable.

As hard to believe that it is, it has been confirmed that it happened by the guy over the whole camp. The only thing he is disputing, is what was actually in the mop bucket.

Demand a full refund, and after you get your money back, tell the news. If they wanna play hardball and act like it wasn't a big deal, they deserve to be put on blast.

I've been to plenty of camps, had many water balloon fights, and not once was that ever even discussed among campers

Disgusting!!! Must not have done a background check on the counselor who allowed this to happen. I bet I would be background checking him. If the camp outfit has any social media that can be commented on or reviews can be given, I would certainly get it done.

Well the story has changed several times in this thread. Earlier it was mop-water, then the girls just assumed it was mop water because it didn't smell good. Earlier it was 7-9yo boys, then it's 11-12yo. I say get your money back if you want, justice was served on the counselor for letting a prank go to far, or at least not paying attention to the boys he was in charge of while they were making the balloons, then let it go. It's summer camp, pranks happen, kids and teenagers make dumb decisions, don't get so butt hurt.

No. Immediate would have been "GTFO right now! You have no business supervising children! We are afraid that you could make other decisions that could result in someone getting really hurt!"

Instead, they allowed said asshat to continue his duties for another 12 hours after knowing he encouraged 7-9 y/o boys to put bodily fluids in a balloon and throw them at others.

If the balloon fight was at night, it was probably not long before lights out. They probably didn't get the story straight until after that point, at which it would have been a bad idea to wake everyone up in the cabin while the counselor got his shite. They probably did it during breakfast the next morning to not cause such a scene and case closed. I know you're pissed, no pun intended, because it was your little girl, but it sounds like they've handled the situation pretty reasonably.

I’d be fricking pissed. This is how I would handle it. If your daughter doesn’t need medical attention (doctors visit and medicine) AND the counselor was actually fired, leave it be but never send them to that camp again and let it be know what happened. If your daughter needs medical attention, any cost incurred should be paid by the camp. What a shitty counselor

The story has not changed.

It was 7-9 y/o boys who filled and threw the balloons and hit 11-12 y/o girls. They don't know what was in the balloons that were not filled with urine. It was assumed that it was from a mop bucket because it was in the bath house where they were filling the balloons. Those balloons had a distinct smell that was not water from the faucet. The counselor didn't just not supervise the boys, the gave them the idea and encouraged it.

Nothing on a background check that will tell you if the kid's an a-hole.
