The counselor that approved the balloons with urine and mop water is an adult. The kids that threw them are 7-9 years old. I don't blame the kids, but the counselor probably got off easy with just being fired.

The counselor is an adult? Well then it is your duty as a Dad to hunt him down and kick his arse. When he is laying on the ground after said arse whipping you should then piss on him and walk away. Justice will then be served.

How do you fill water balloons with mop water? How do you put water from a tub into a narrow neck? Funnel it?

If the balloon fight was at night, it was probably not long before lights out. They probably didn't get the story straight until after that point, at which it would have been a bad idea to wake everyone up in the cabin while the counselor got his shite. They probably did it during breakfast the next morning to not cause such a scene and case closed. I know you're pissed, no pun intended, because it was your little girl, but it sounds like they've handled the situation pretty reasonably.

The other counselors were livid and went straight to the administration as soon as it happened. She had a little girl who was vomiting and crying uncontrollably after being hit with a urine balloon. The staff knew what had happened within minutes, not the next day.

Doubt you get sinus problems from water in a mop bucket...but if you can prove it, more power to you.

Your kid went to a camp with a bunch of little germ-spreading Petri dishes and you’re blaming her sore throat on water from a mop bucket? Good luck proving that. Sounds like people were punished and you’re getting money back. Teach your kid a valuable lesson about moving on by letting this go.

What does your husband think?

Since you are one that seems to enjoy various bodily fluids drenched in and around your face, I can see how to don't think this is such a big deal.

Do what you want to do then. If you want to sue or go assault the counselor kid because it makes you feel better more power to you. You don't need approval from the OT for any of that, but a little pity party is all it looks like you were wanting. Beta AF

I would get my refund for the entire camp, not just the week I did not attend. I would also share that information with the ACA or FB (Dear Diary...).

I'd guess it was a dumb kid, not cool either way.

As a medical professional, who is married to a medical professional, I understand that. I can only shudder at the thought of them using water from a bucket that had bleach or some other harsh chemical in it. A sinus infection is small compared to permanent blindness.

That may very well be, but organizations still have to do their due diligence before dropping the hammer on someone.

For one, they need to get all the facts straightened out. Just because the water balloons had piss in them doesn't mean that the counselor knew or approved of it. And even if other kids and counselors said that he knew/approved, they could be exaggerating, lying, or just repeating something they heard someone else say. That's why hearsay is objectionable in a court of law. You'd either need the counselor to confess or the matching testimonies of multiple kids under that counselor's watch.

Then, once they've determined that the counselor did in fact know/approve of the piss balloons. they need to figure out an appropriate course of action that minimizes disruption to everyone else.

Firing him the next morning (considering the incident happened at night) is pretty damn immediate.

As hard to believe that it is, it has been confirmed that it happened by the guy over the whole camp. The only thing he is disputing, is what was actually in the mop bucket.

Whose piss was it? Call me crazy, but I don't think 7-9 year olds are filling up a balloon with their own piss.

So you think an allegation of a crime, with witnesses, normally results in an employee resuming their duties until an investigation is complete?

what camp is this? frick THAT

This is an important question.

OP needs to make sure they leave a few reviews for all to see. Get the other parents involved as well.

Yeah piss balloons are disgusting... if the counselor was apart of it/actively approved it than he’s getting off light by just being fired. I think I would contact whatever regulating body that oversees the camp and see what they think.

I def want a full refund and any medical bills paid for.

Umm...yes?

I mean, it depends on the reliability of the witnesses and other factors, but as a blanket answer to your question, I'd say yes.

They may not have had another counselor to take his place on short notice and needed to get
Someone there.

I agree, I mean, we are talking about a business here, not firing a babysitter. I'm sure they had to get written statements, call lawyers, document the incident, etc.
and just because he wasn't terminated until the next morning doesn't mean that he was allowed to continue supervising the kids? that seems like an unnecessary thing to be upset about, and OP should focus on not being notified of the incident.

That's true as well. He could've been forced to sleep in an administration cabin or something that night. Just because he's not fired doesn't mean that he's continuing to carry on with his duties.

Now you are just being silly.

People are being held accountable and you’re getting money back because your kid’s exhibiting symptoms of a typical summer allergy. Your hysterical response is probably rooted in some parental guilt but, I’ll give my advice again - move on.

The witnesses were other camp employees, the victims, and their urine soaked clothing. Imagine if it were a case of molestation. Think it's a good idea to let the counselor stay in that position until the investigation is complete? Hell, the take cops off the job whenever they are involved in a shooting! As for not having another counselor available, the administration should have a contingency in place. What if a counselor get sick and can't work? They just let the kids go unsupervised?
