DA Jason Williams is joining the law firm Schonekas, Evans, McGoey and McEachin. Also employed there is Billy Gibbens, who successfully defended Williams at his tax fraud trial.

How is this possible? Is being DA not a full time job?

I’m not concerned about this. The interests of the city of New Orleans will always come first. A man of his character surely will see to that.

Often times when politicians, counsel members, DAs are "members" of a law firm they are "of counsel" or something where its a figurehead position.

He's "Of Counsel". I've never seen anyone younger than retirement age listed as such. Usually an honorific position for some old farts who are likely still drawing income from the firm one way or the other.

New Orleans will now have a part time DA in a city with an extremely high crime rate that already has trouble prosecuting people on time.

He’s just trolling the Justice system at this point. all I can do is laugh at this point.

Mayor
DA
Sheriff
Police Superintendent

It’s a fricking 4 ring circus.

Not to mention the City Council is no better

Yea it’s a way for him to justify all the money he has while being a “public servant”.

It’s all a fraud

I could see a councilman, a Department Head, hell the Mayor maybe being "of counsel" and keeping their law license current.

The fricking DA? At a firm that does criminal defense? GTFO. The conflict would be obvious anywhere but NOLA.

Indefensible. The active DA of New Orleans in need of money after his own federal tax fraud trial taking a side job with a New Orleans criminal defense during the biggest crime wave in 30 years might be peak New Orleans.

But don’t worry folks, he’ll only be moonlighting on the civil side of things.

Also - this firm is who I would hire if I got in trouble with the law.

"of counsel" is a way to be affiliated with a firm, but maintain a separate practice. It basically allows you each leave your file cabinets unlocked and not be accused of violating client confidentiality rules.

How is this not a conflict of interest?

Can that law firm not represent anyone that the city brings charges on?

Not like they do, but still.

That is pretty common. The trial of the 4 little devils who dragged that women to death is coming up, let's see how vigorously they are prosecuted. That will send a message to the thug community.

Horrific crime. Anything less than life without parole would be a travesty.

if races of this crime were reversed it would’ve been called a modern day lynching

Our AG is a salaried board member for Harvey Gulf and also hired the CEO of Harvey Gulf to be paid pspecial agent/investigator in the AG's office.

Louisiana is awful with this shite. DA's and AG's should not be holding other jobs like this.
