A new Oregon law allows students there to take "mental health days" off from school, just as they would sick days. Under the state's new law, students can have up to five excused absences in a three-month period, which can now be either a sick day or a mental health day. However, anything beyond that will require a written excuse from a doctor or professional.

1 week of school off a semester in addition to all of the other holidays.

These administrators just played themselves.

What’s next? Booze and strippers in the classroom? I find them comforting.

What is this actually teaching the kids?

You have an issue with a student taking a personal day?

You must have 100% perfect attendance at your job and never miss a day.

Suicide is the second-leading cause of death among Oregon residents aged 15 to 34, and the eighth-leading cause among all ages in the state, the Oregon Health Authority said.

Seems like a decent justification. Not sure what issue you have with it.

I like it, as it bolsters honesty. How many parents lie to the school saying their kid is sick so that they can go do something? Sets a bad example.

Actually, I don’t recall the last time I took a day off besides a holiday. I believe in hard work.

Surely you are not this stupid.

I wonder what’s the number 1 cause for deaths? Maybe we should give them days off for that too.

If you think this won’t be abused, you’re fooling yourself.

As long as they do their schoolwork at home like I used to have to do when I missed school because of the flu or a hangover. I have no problem with it.

I don't get the problem with this.
Students will abuse it, no doubt. But they'd only be hurting themselves. So joke's on them
