Mormans are a cult.

They worship a 14 year kid that took mushrooms 200 years ago and said he saw god.

Then they have these made up rules about no caffeine, alcohol and messing around, and wearing protective full body underwear

The origin story of pretty much every religion is illogical. Also, they all have arbitrary moral rules/codes. And I say this as a Christian

The only difference is your beliefs are two thousand years old

I visited BYU once, long time ago. Actually enjoyed Provo. The scenery was SEC quality.

Ole baw from TCU led the game off with a double then simulated fingerblasting a broad and smelling his fingers. So they may be more lax.

I'd seriously consider converting just to be a part of that if I ever happened to meet a great Mormon girl by chance. Its definitely a time capsule to when / where we all claim to have been the happiest. I'd love to know if anybody has converted recently for the lifestyle and not really cared about the religious aspect.

Their family dynamic is something to be envied if nothing else. I "dated" a Mormon in HS and every time I was at their house they all seemed so happy and very family-centric. The girl I was dating was the 4th kid, but they had 9 kids so they had from toddler age to college age to even college grad age, the older ones were all married already but still visited almost every weekend. They were all very involved with each other and shared their experiences every day and gave each other advice. One time she blew off my Blue Bayou date in the summer because they were doing a family project and the next week I was over and they had this big mural that every member of the family contributed to and they found a place to frame and place it by the time I next came over.

Every early evening they would go practice throwing and hitting the baseball outside, even the toddlers were encouraged, and then we went inside and played Mario Kart, had dinner, and then it was time for bed so I'd go home.

It was very routine and schedule oriented but I'll be damned if they weren't happy and also well adjusted at school. They'd take any underwear jokes and no drinking/sex/caffeine jokes in full stride because they just weren't ashamed of it. Most all had very good grades too.

The actual dogma of the religion just seems like a crock of BS (to me) but I can't lie they seem to lead very happy lives and stick by each other. And make a bunch of babies Family after all is very important to them, they take the be fruitful and multiply thing very seriously.

As a resident of clown world, maybe they’re not wrong, maybe they’re on to something at Oral Roberts.

I hung out with a girl from Plaquemine in early 90s that was mormon and your description is spot on. They were a very nice family.

Isn't he the one who said God would "call him home" (ie: kill him) if his viewers didn't donate a large amount of money to him? Sounds on the up and up for sure.

I attend ORU for 2 years, way back in the day. Yes, you sign the honor code, however, a large percentage of the students drink (there's always a party from the Tulsa U. students), people frick (I mean they're college students and found places to accommodate), and lots of students cursed like sailors (surprisingly, some of the girls outdid the guys). It wasn't nearly as by the code as one would think.

Students attending have to sign a code of conduct, live on Campus, each floor of dorms has a minister and a RA. The code of conduct incours disciplinary actions by the school if they lie, curse, smoke, drink, have sex or do gay shite. They have a strict dress code and have to go to church. FYI

But then how are they supposed to express their individuality and the gender fluidity of their identity as a hedgehog?

Oh, the humanity.

Two of my kids recently graduated ORU. Your interpretation of the conduct code is way off. Not as strict as you think. Don’t have to live on campus. No strict dress code. Dorms do not have ministers.

They used to also have prohibitions against facial hair including sideburns. Tattoos and piercings are strictly verboten. (I think back when it 1st opened even women's ears could not be pierced.)

The non smoking rules have always been in place, even back when the majority of the population smoked everywhere all the time. (I lived in Tulsa in the early 70’s as well as a couple more times 80’s/90’s)

ORU is, or was anyway, closer to Baptist than all out Pentecost. Especially with their ultra conservative rules. Rhema Bible College in Broken Arrow is a freer more open Pentecostal place. Doing loan collections on Rhema students was fun. Never had a late payment out of the ORU faculty or students.
