Passat, Jetta, Tiguan?

Thinking of getting one of these three.

Pros/cons? Maintenance/upkeep? Resale value?

Nice while they're working as expected...new

Their electrical systems seem to be their downfall.

Don't be seduced by the pretty seats and fancy interior.

My daughter had a 2013 Jetta. She got T boned by a corvette going 65MPH and walked away. It held its value very well on the insurance payback. The insurance is a little higher on Volkswagen than Japanese counterparts because parts are more expensive.

Just finished turning my diesel Jetta back in about 10 minutes ago.

Take it FWIW but I found it to be an exponentially nicer car than everything else in it's price range. I put 110k trouble free miles on mine, just scheduled maintenance and tires. Hadn't even changed the headlights yet. I have a base model Toyota Camry now and it's nowhere near as nice as base Jetta was.

They're great, if you're a woman.

Also, they're practically junk after 5 years.

Had a VW once. Never again. Owned it for 1 year, and 6 of those months it was in the shop trying to figure out why all the electrical went crazy. I'd hit the windshield wipers and the windows would roll down.

I had a 2002 GTI. Great little car, drove like a go-cart. But the electrical system fried and the vacuum hoses all went to shite. Would have cost $1400 to fix. Donated to NPR for a $1200 tax write-off instead. Will not own one again, sadly.

They were the most reliable vehicles on the road until VW started acquiring other car companies in the late 90s.

Then quality really fell by wayside.

They look nice, especially the Passat.

The ones I've rented have been cramped and uncomfortable to drive. Understand they are high maintenance like other German cars.

Girlfriend has a Tiguan. Interior is nice with the second lowest level coming with leather, touchscreen, seat coolers, etc. Compared to other cars in its class it is far and away the best bang for your buck on the interior, though it lacks in other categories.

I have a 08 Passat 2.0T with 150k miles that I use as a commute only car. It is great car for the most prt, especially when talking mechanically. I've never any issues mechanically with normal upkeep.

I can't say the same thing about cosmetics though, I've had many issues with minor things coming apart and breaking.

If you don't care about cosmetics they are good reliable cars in my opinion.

I can't deal with the crayon smell of their interiors.

Had an older Golf that was structurally sound.
Rammed by a drunk doing 30 while I was stopped at a light and the car provided excellent protection.
Servicing at stealership was expensive in BR.
Rubber and engine plastic parts were poor quality.
Electrical system was fine.

I will look at the Atlas's when they come out.

Don't do it. Sold my wife's Sportwagen TDI back to Volkswagen thanks to the emissions scandal. So happy they paid me for it.

The engine was fine. Everything else around it kept crapping out and was expensive to fix.

I won't own another one.

My passat was a good car until it hit 100k. Then it started falling apart.
Vw needs to change their lineup. They have looked the same 4ever
